I see BOF are advertising Sophie's job on the website - it's down to a 3day a week but they seem to be expecting the same input - interesting. Was there not some mention of reviewing the post with the possibility of major events organisation being included - perhaps that is what the person will have to do on the other 2 days a week
That would be a tough assignment I reckon.

I certainly wouldn't stay in bed for less than that either
just this second received this from a quite exceptional person in ouir club who was partly responsible from introducing orienteering to this country:

I understand from the HOC Newsletter that you need volunteers for the above. I would be happy to help out on the Saturday and/or Sunday, March 19/20.
Qualifications: M75, still active(ish). Past experience at various Exhibitions in UK and abroad. Working knowledge of following languages: Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, German, French and Italian. Resident Birmingham area, so would not require accommodation.
If I can be of help, please let me know.
Kind regards,
Dear Marketing Manager,
In response to an appeal by the HOC newsletter editor for volunteers to help out on your Outdoor Show Stand, March 19/20, I rushed to offer my services by e-mail on 10th February. Today - 3 weeks later - and still not having received a reply from you, I regret I can no longer keep these dates open and must withdraw my offer!
I am tempted to suggest that you might, perhaps, also require secretarial support, to keep your correspondence up-to-date.

It could be that since Sophie has done such a fantastic job over the last two years, and set up so many systems, and made so much contact with sponsors that continuation would only require three days.
Congratulations and many thanks to Sophie for all her hard work... she has worked wonders. Wishing her well in her future career!
Major events, as I understand it, are looked after by Alex Ross.
Reducing the job from five to three days will undoubtedly free up funding for something else. Give BOF some credit here. Definitely a worthwhile expenditure (Sports Council money?) spent on Sophie's work.

I suppose we were just unlucky not to get any new members from the professional marketing effort then

Anyway, as I have said several times elsewhere, new members are the result of efforts of clubs at local level. Word of mouth brings in most new members, inviting a friend to have a go... New people introduced at local and informal events... that is where our efforts should be.

Its a shame Sophie has left/is leaving, I'm thinking of doing my dissertation along the lines of the marketing of minority sports so was hoping have got some information from her. Maybe i should just try and get a job there, I have a few spare days a week

Perhaps this message is why I was phoned about 5pm today to ask if I was still free - I'm not, as I'e volunteered to help at the Polaris MTB event in the Brecon Beacons....
