The World 10,000m record was well and truely smashed today at Meadowbank, Edinburgh's Commonwealth stadium.
Scott Fraser, Murray Strain and Graeme Ackland took nearly 30 seconds off the existing mark to record a time of 25:51.7 in dreich, cold but largely calm conditions.
Finishing 28.3 seconds inside Kenenisa Bekele's record the team were ahead from the start, a sprightly first 400m being covered in 56.8 seconds.
The team continued to grind away at the record, passing through 2km in 5:03.0, 5 km in 12:50.5 and 8km in 20:40.5
Some people will be stumping up a fair amount of sponsorship money in light of this performance.
Will any other centres of orienteering excellence take up the gauntlet and have a go at mark set by the Edinburgh crew ?

Congratulations lads.
I'm sure Bekele is shaking in his spikes.

I want to walk up the side of the mountain, I want to walk down the other side of the mountain. I want to swim in the river, lie in the sun. I want to try being nice to everyone.

Great effort! Congratulations, I'll hand over the cash at the weekend
Any girls fancy a stab at this one?
29:31.78 Junxia Wang
hmm.. 17 x 200 all a shade over 35 seconds?
Perhaps we have to think of another challenge to at least keep up with the boys' fundraising efforts

but who got away with running 200m less than the other two?
Or was there a team effort for the last 400m??

Mrs H - sounds like you should take them up on it for the JK event centre entertainment programme - you might even be able to sell some tickets and raise some money!
Why did I do that...

Its a good idea.
If you have an athletics track at the event centre its easy. And the JK would be a great opportunity to gather sponsorship.
However, given Rocky's testimony you will not want to do this whilst trying to race the JK.
Unless....
you get a very large number of girls (i.e. nearly all the girls in the squad) to do just a very few reps each.
Three lads did 17 each
perhaps 17 girls could do 3 each.
If you can get on the track it doesn't take much organising.
Do it just ahead of the prize giving on Sunday evening.
Onyhoo the splits as requested by Rocky.
