Tentsmuir - what's that like then?
I am trying to decide whether or not to fit the Scottish champs into my busy schedule - but I have never been to Tentsmuir and I don't recall ever seeing a map of it. What's it like? Is it any good? I have seen the small map section on the Interlopers website which looks quite good - but if I was advertising an event I would stick the best bit of map on the website too.

tentsmuir is flat and fast with areas of detail much like that shown and then vague flat areas with pits in the middle of nowhere. Away from the coast there are some areas of green & light green which make things more tricky. Very "blocky" though with parallel tracks and paths every 250m or so. This is from my experiences of the north part, can't remember what the rest of it is like.

Would I do a thing like that?

The more people that come, the better it will be!
I'd hazard a guess that you'll get about 5-6km through stuff like Dave shows on the website, which really is as nice as it looks. That would be all the relay course then... Add a bit of route-choice through grid forest to make up the distance and join the detailed areas on the longer individual courses. There are a few vaguer, low visibility bits, but of course the planner and controller wont do anything bingoey
Can't think of anywhere like it in Scotland: Pembrey would be the best approximation to a similar area down south.

I test-ran one of my relay courses a couple of weeks ago. Pushing it a bit, but no where near a race pace, and was on about 6.5mins/km so we're looking at closer to 5min/km for the relay itself. As Graeme says, the relay is all in the northern part where Dave's taken the map extracts from - fairly representative on the northern part I'd say
I'd say it'll be well worth the trip if you haven't decided yet (but then I would say that wouldn't I )

From what I can remember, the British Champs M21E (or equivalent) was getting on for 20km or so at the '78 British. I remember it was the longest M19 course ever to date at that stage - around 14k? Had to give it a miss with uni exams, but it was used for BUSF (now BUSA) and Trossachs 79, and was good fun on both occasions (but I was vaguely fit in those days!): enough interesting bits to keep things going. A bit Lossie-ish (?) without the extra detailed bit, and perhaps somewhat greener in patches now by the looks of it, having cycled through it last summer.
