Astonishingly - this notice appeared on the BOF web site last summer pertaining to the selection of juniors - i have no idea how the senior selection works.
SELECTION NOTICE
English Orienteering Council
Junior Selection Policy for Interland 2005
Selection for the proposed International with Belgium, Germany, Holland etc (Interland 2005) to be held on 20th February 2005 will be based on the following events;
- Regional Event Wharncliffe Woods (YHOA) 17th October 2004
- National Event Fylingdales (CLOK) 14th November 2004
- National Event Ash Ranges (SEOA)) 2nd January 2005
and all known form up until 6 weeks before the proposed International.
In keeping with the objectives of the England Selectors to use this competition to provide experience, it is unlikely that the Junior Selectors will consider members of the Great Britain Junior Squad for selection.
It is likely that the composition of the Junior team will be 3 M/W14, 3 M/W16 and 1 M/W18.
It is unlikely that the selectors will consider juniors in ‘bottom year’ M/W14 ie born in 1992.
Please note that juniors wishing to be considered for Interland 2005 selection entering the Wharncliffe event should enter the following courses;
M14/W14 – Courses JM4/JW4
M16/W16 – Courses JM5M/JW5S
M18/W18 – Courses JM5L/JW5L

Well someone told me the selection races for Seniors were the same, but this may or may not be hearsay. I'd say not to be honest, as most of the selections and reserves weren't at these events or ran different courses. It's a mystery!
Will? We've got proper fire now!

here you can find an extract of the map!
I haven't run on the map so can't give you anymore details... anyway, I would like Flanders to win
some foreigners seem to have problems with the heather and sand areas, which could be slightly differently mapped than you are used to
the contour interval is 2 m i guess, so it means that it's difficult to use the contours for navigation ,better to use compass
hope this helps...

And haven't raced here at all...it's a very bizarre system. But then they've always done that haven't they, and gradually worked down the list of reserves till someone says yes.

I make no comment on the selections made but if, in your opinion, the selections were not made in accordance with the selection proceedures, then make an official complaint. This is the only way to prevent selection 'mistakes' being repeated in the future. It takes guts, but you can either have a bit of a whine on nopesport until you feel better, or hold the selectors to account. I know who I have more respect for.
Going to the event and whopping the selected team is always pretty funny too...

What selection procedure?
Well, if it does get down as far as me, I can't go anyway cos I'm off to Portugal Haven't heard anything though.
It would be nice if the first choice people were the sort of people who'd actually be really chuffed with being picked.

To be fair I wasn't looking very hard, but I never found any senior selection criteria. Someone told me they thought the races were the same as for the juniors but that may be a load of rubbish. at least one person attended them all in a hope of being selected and hasn't been - I only went to one. If anyone knows the criteria I'd be interested? Or if there even are any criteria?
