Not a very pleasant thing to write about on a forum, but I wondered if anyone else has ever experienced a similar kind of problem. I do two hard sessions on a Tuesday and my stomach is fine, eat a meal late Tues night after the circuits and then all Wednesday and a bit of Thursday I get quite nasty stomach cramps and feel like I need the loo all the time. It makes my recovery run on Wednesday really uncomfortable and sometimes effects my long run on Thursday too.
Any else had any similar problems or have any hints on what to try and do to avoid it? I know some people have had problems with tolerating dairy produce and stuff but I'm really not sure what the cause could be! Any advice muchly appreciated!

I used to struggle if I had eaten or drunk anything in the 2 hours before exercising, & I couldn't eat or drink anything soon afterwards, either. I used to get stomach cramps and have to dive for the bushes all the time - unpleasant for me, and for people I was running with. Used to be a nightmare on mountain marathons etc because I couln't eat or drink anything whilst running, either.
Now, if I go dairy free - milk, cheese, yoghurt (but not chocolate, thank God) - in the 12 hours or so before exercise, I can eat and drink 10 minutes before a run and be fine.
May also be linked to why breastfed babies of mothers who are dairy-free get less colic than breastfed babies of mothers who eat lots of dairy - nothing to do with O, but maybe useful for someone!

The information below is from Run For Life, by Sam Murphy, which has a section on stomach problems.
Finding a solution is a case of trial and error.
It may be content or timing of the meals.
avoid drinks with high sugar content, e.g. sports drinks - try diluting them
avoid high fibre foods before a run
avoid dairy foods before a run
In general it is good to cut down on caffeine/alcohol, as these are known stomach irritants.

Sorry I didn't reply earlier, was banished to internetless lands in the north for a few days! We've been going to the Noodle Bar for a quick no fuss food fix straight after circuits which means a large amount of pretty fatty food late at night - might try going for a nice simple salad with steamed fish this time and see if that's any better. I eat very little dairy but that's probably my second line to try cutting out.

The noodle bar food might also contain monosodium glutamate - implicated in all kinds of tummy problems as well as migraine and other headaches.
