Was just looking on the Deafolympics site from the Games in Australia and spotted that orienteering was included.

I'm not sure of the scale of this competition but it strikes me that providing orienteering for the deaf is a lot easier of a way to support 'disabled' rather than 'trail O'. Is there any work done in this field in GB?

did you not see the news story about it on the frontpage?
From looking through sites I found that back in 2000 there was apparently 25 male & 10 female deaf orienteers in the UK but only one competitors from the UK was present at the European Championships last year though. I couldn't really find any info on any special provision for deaf orienteers in this country however.

Brooner posted a big report on this yesterday in the news section. i think you have a point there gross. trail O is a major undertaking for any main stream evemt to put on. Orienteering for the deaf may need an on site signer but not much else (always knew young Neville would be useful one day- he's a dab hand - literally!) Does anyone else here do sign language?

that lithuanian world champion chap is good, not too far off ("normal") national team level. running the takas five day in lit last summer there was a big group of deaf orienteers, and they took a lot of pleasure in this guy's performances. nice fellow too, although interaction was limited, my sign language being worse than my lithuanian, limited to a smile, a bow and a thumbs up!!
