Cost of entry
I notice from the LEI details for the Compass Sport Cup match to be held at the 27th February event that the cost of entry will be £7 seniors and £3.50 Juniors for a Colour Coded (or should I say district event). Is this the most expensive CC event?

They are upto £2 more expensive than other clubs organising this round of the cup.

can concur, I organised a CSC round a few years ago and my club (hosting it) also made a loss as we priced it a normal CC prices. I vowed never to organise another another CSC because of the added hassle and cos we made a loss. Upto my club if it wants to host another one, but it knows not come knocking on my door..

It's because of the high quality areas we have in the Leicester area.

My experience tells me LEI areas are flat and can't say I've visited one of quality!!!! I've obviously missed out
Diets and fitness are no good if you can't read the map.

Is there a relationship between the quality of the terrain and the cost of entry?
I cannot say I've conducted an exhaustive study, but I think not.

If you take my last 6 months of O I think there is a relationship but unfortunately the quality is inversely proportional to the entry fee

Your orienteering must be gravitating South!!
Is it cheaper to Orienteer in Yorkshire, the North & Scotland?

The cost of map printing, land access charges, etc. etc. is going to be the same whatever the quality of the terrain. Surely you can't penalise clubs that haven't got quite as high quality areas by telling them they can't charge as much for their events?!
If you're talking about the quality of planning, mapping or event facilities, then maybe (eg. badge and national events *should* have better quality maps/courses even though it's not always the case), but the actual quality of the area shouldn't really have much of an effect on the cost of entry...

Highest on the list of expensive and non-interesting o was (sorry to anyone offended I just speak my opinion) the National near Whitby, quite North last time I checked.

Maybe the cost of Orienteering should be related to the course you enter.
£4 to £5 for a Green Blue or Brown, 45 to 75 mins seems OK, but the same price for beginners on a yellow or Orange seems a bit steep (15 to 25 mins).
Admittedly this would be a nightmare to control. Food for thought ?

Sorry to those clubs who don't have quality areas but IMO you shouldn't be hosting national events, or at least not on your own areas. The last 2 have been quite poor quality areas and quite frankly I'm taking my toys away and only going to national events on known good areas now. Having poor standard national events devalues the whole idea.
