was just preparing to stuff the juniors' Xmas stockings when spotted this on the back of local free newspaper, and thought I'd share it for Xmas.Interview is with local marathon runner Carl Warren. If Hopwas means nothing to you, check out JK details! Article by Matt Panter (hope I'm not breaching Great Barr Observer Sport copyright)
"Among the targets, before London, will be the British Runner Xtreme Trail Challenge through Hopwas Woods"
"Warren has been talked into running by course designer Spencer Duval, a former Olympic steeplechaser"
"Runners have to tackle a physical 6 mile course which takes them through heavily mudded areas, water obstacles, up and down steep off-path trails and heavy undergrowth"
"It's a far cry from pounding the streets of London for 26 miles and, indeed it's far different from cross country running but Warren is preparing to take on the challenge"
"There's still time for me to get out of it, I suppose " Warren laughed "I've got to be stupid to take part"
"It's not the kind of thing you take seriously. There are athletes who train specifically for this type of endurance event."
"I did a test run of the course last week and was amazed to see just how tough it was" he added
"It was completely mad out there, some of the inclines are just awesome. I needed to focus on just getting to the top, let alone worry about running" he added
Race director Phil Smith is expecting the cream of athletes from the Midlands area to test their fitness levels and endurance....."It will help them in the run up to Tough Guy to have such a fierce and challenging warm up" he admitted.
er..yes Hopwas has hills, yes it's got mud, yes it's got rhodedendrons, yes you can cut between trails, AND it's home to the JK relays. Can you feel your awesomeness and fierceness quota increasing already ? I think mine just did....
tough guys run at Hopwas!

sorry for anonymous original post folks; didn't spot it had gone in as "guest". I need to report to "bugs" section that I seem to get logged out every time I move between screens. (but none of the "guests" on other postings are me!)
.
Would going to watch this at Hopwas endanger a JK relay entry? I'm assuming that , in order to draw spectators, it's probably six laps of a one mile course, rather than "tough guys"smashing around the entire wood for 6 miles.

for a map of where they're going.
Don't think you'll gain any JK advantage by taking a look...
Looks like the "hills of Doom" get their awesome status from having to be climbed several times in close succession!
Perhaps same reporter would take up the Hopwas story again for JK publicity, and be even more impressed by the "fierce" M21s (or the even more fearsome W50s) running up the "awesome" hills whilst also reading a map (and with no marshalls to show them the way)
