Run Aid / Band Aid
Just seen on the junior forum about trying to record an orienteers version of Do they Know it's Christmas time. This reminded me of 1985 when they had RunAid in early June. It was same weekend as BOC at Achilty north of Inverness. Graham Mc and me organised a collection.... think we got around £1000 for the cause:)

It's the same damn song! Except in the new one someone gets to be "street" and do Dizzee Rascal. Oh, and the old one was sung by global megastars, with the new one being half arsed efforts by Brit artists who will be forgotten in 3 months time.
If only Bono and Busted gave half their bleeding millions to charity maybe we could all have some peace and quiet this christmas. Instead of buying crappy presents for each other we donated some money to charity for Christmas presents for friends this year. I don't need some half arsed coddled together single to be persuaded. Band Aid was the right thing to do 20 years ago, now it's just an ego boost for some dwindling stars of the British pop business.
Me, cynical? Nooooo.

there is a deeper reason behiond the whole concept than that becks has pointed out. Watch out in 2005, if you missed the documentary on BBC 1

it doesn't really matter if its an 'ego boost'. i'm not the biggest fan of busted (probably second behind hargreaves) but its raising some money for a good cause! maybe they're still trying to find out if they know is christmas time at all?

wasn't that a rhetorical question? anyway if they do know it's christmas time at all i reckon it looks kind of different in sudan. they're probably not getting lashed and bitching about dizzee rascal.
i feel bad now. but it doesn't make me want to buy that single. however maybe i'll have a few less drinks at our christmas party and make a donation to a worthy cause.
on that note, if anyone wants to make a donation to a cause closer to home, i still don't have that many clothes since i had everything nicked and the insurance company said "you don't have insurance, go away." , but thanks to nick barrable (t-shirt) and helen winskill (waterproof trousers), i'm not saying i'm as worthy a cause as the sudanese but hey if pyrat can start a wagon wheel appeal i can start a running-aid appeal. you will be aiding 2 runners, me and jethro lennox because i won't be breaking his washing machine as often if i have more kit.
send donations (kit or just cash i'm not fussy) to me at
flat 1/2 44 leven street

thanks and happy christmas to one and all. x

wasn't the running one dubbed "Run the World" with Midge Ure doing a re-working of Everybody Wants to Rule the World. i had a T shirt - you had to do a sponsored 6K or something - I ran alongside Hadrian's Wall and made about £20 i think (It was a long time ago - i forget)

But seemingly rather accurate.
I'll go with the option of giving whatever a single costs nowadays to charity and missing out on buying (and maybe then having to listen to that 'song'), with the added bonus of not having a cut of the money taken away to actually pay the costs of producing the cd.
Simon (who endured hearing that 'song' while trying to do some shopping this morning)

Pretty sure WWOP have tried this, by mapping areas around big Kenyan training camps. But mostly the Kenyans wern't very interested in it as a sport. Only notable exception being Peter Gitura a 2:10 (ish) marathoner who has run in a few Park World Tours and became the first African winner of an Oringen class when he won the new marathon class this year.
