You may be an M35+ on a Brown being beaten by a girl, but please give said girl a bit of space when careering down steep ultra slippery slopes. Whoever it was in a red O suit stood on my hands multiple times and crashed into me once today going down the very slippy hills in Honley Old Wood. I don't like being scared at the prospect at the heavy breathing bloke twice the size of me careering into me everytime I go down hill. I break quite easily, give me some space!
Maybe if you improved your control flow you wouldn't need to try and overtake me on the steep downhills? What's the point fighting for the punch when you then stand stationary next to the control for 30 seconds plus blocking everyone else's route out.
Ruined my event today. Anyone else think this is just a bit too much aggression for a Colour Coded (or whatever they're called now) event?
And lovely event EPOC - thanks very much!

There's always one, and they don't always pick on the girlies. I've been landed on by a beefy M40 whilst copying a second master map in a large steep depression.
If they are short, you can understand it. If they are tall, then they must be lacking in the trouser department.
Let's have some courtesy out there please!

its so funny when people try really hard at colour codededses.
Becky, next time just shaddow him, being kind enough to point out every time he is going wrong, would be hilarious
"mate, seriously, what are you doing, its so not down there, you obvisouly aint been reading the map have you... oh... oh.... yeah! there it is. well done"
I remeber on the last day of o-ringen this year i was running in the open towards the last control with some swede right behind me. he was taking things a bit to seriously. on the path infront was (i think) mrs drew, i went round the edge, leaving ample room, but i think he may have cut things a bit closer, coz a few seconds later i here "you bar stools" or similar being shouted at us.

From the high speed and navigational incompetence it sounds like your man in red is that rare thing, an adult beginner who is enthusiatic rather than cynical about colour codeds.
You could take the time after your run to explain to him what he (like many beginners) clearly doesn't know, and you have just emphatically demonstrated: that stop-start is an inefficient way to orienteer.
Or you could just slag him off to your mates behind his back, or take the p*ss like Mharky suggests.
Because we really dont want overenthusiastic incompetents coming into our nice sport do we?

I try to be the voice of reason nost of the time, but this guy pissed me off! Even a beginner to the sport should realise it's dangerous to push people down a slope so closely that they finish the course with scratches all over the hands from someone else's dobs. He was wearing proper O kit and dobs, which not many beginners do in my book. Maybe I was harsh, but had I taken the time to speak to him at the end of the course he would have gotten a face full of bluster and not much reason.
I like to take colour codeds as serious technical training, but it's severely hard to concentrate in your technique when there's a big juggernaut careering far too closely down the hill behind you.

Fair point. As a official I'm well aware that I shouldn't expect too much courtesy from tired competitors at the end of the race . And as a competitor I'm aware of not being at my most rational then either .

I don't think high speed and navigational incompetence necessarily means he's a beginner. I know a few people who would fit the description! & some are VERY enthusiastic about colour codeds. Apparently SoSOLs are THE races.
i mock, but I'm not cynical about colour codeds tho, it's great having training exercise with controls out and timing. Up here they even let you copy your map up before the clock starts. Colour codeds in the Nottingham/Leeds areas tended to be on pish little areas (except Bestwood and Danefield-i love them) Now it's nice to finish orienteering and still be able to see skin on the front of your legs instead of just blood. I also HATE 2nd master maps -breaks the flow. NOC tend to have pre marked maps now tho, sometimes you have to remember to turn it over, this can also be confusing at the start, you need to start on the side of the map with the start triangle.
BTW anyone in the Nottingham area for Christmas, my brother has planned me a 5km course with over 300m climb for Christmas day on Bramcote and the Hemlockstone. This I will do before my long run. Maybe about 10am? We will probably do it just by feelings but if there's more people we can maybe hang bog roll.
Also for your running pleasure I can recommend the Notts AC Xmas relays on the 27th at Wollaton Park (2-3 miles hillyish) and the Southwell 10km on the 28th (6.3miles -flat as a pancake).

As a "reccy" I treat all events almost the same... Badge events are pretty rare anyway, and SoSOL events are often far superior to English Midland badge events and you can EOD!
Some of my more competitive outings have been at the Saturday afternoon CATIs - they make great park races and as a poor (fat barsteward) runner I find them quite testing. No technicalities to hide behind..
This does not excuse bad manners though. Never forget one of my classic mispunches (BOC, Hereford) Just before stood aside on a path for an oncommer, who bashed me into the nettles and then started abusing me for not getting out of her way. I was on a tight control loop at the time, and a few minutes later, I heard the bag bawling out some other poor sod. Hope she found another sport. No need for it. Still in 31 years, thats my only incident of this nature...
BTW it was not me.. I remember when red was a banned colour. Usually run in a Hereford United shirt.
