are regional squads a waste of time?

Was that the original guest, or someone's very good impression of a sulky 13 year old?
Either way, this thread will go nowhere unless 'guest' takes Becks'/Ifititches'/Liz F's very good advice. My personal experience of the West Midlands squad over the last 4 years has been consistently positive. Anonymous vague attacks directed at hardworking volunteers are frankly beneath contempt.

christ on a bike. Guest i really wanna know who you are. you are so big and above it all. you wanna criticise the way the squad is run? do it. maybe you would like to run it? i'm sure Liz F won't mind handing over the job to do, she has a very time consuming and important job she gets paid for as well you know.
and if you can't be `bothered' to argue/discuss on the forum, why post?
probably as you have no argument left.

Pictures are better than words because sometimes words are big and hard to understand.

Juniors squads are a fantastic idea, but the solely relay on the commitment and hard work of the managers and coaches. When I was with SCOA it was fantastic, 1 training once a month, then every now and then a weekend with another region, usually south west. David Nixon was the key role for the SCOa junior squad, he worked his ass off for it, along with a list of many others, Deb Bouch, Tim Booth, the harpers, the roses, steve taylor and many others. we even came 3rd once!!! ha ha ha, shame on SW, EM, WM, YH.
Without the coacches the squads fall apart, and i think that may have happened.

guest, I really would like you to get in touch. This surely really isn't about arguments, or your identity, simply about you being OK and the WMJS being OK, (and you've made it clear that you're not.) If you were your coach now, what would you do? If you've felt like this for 3 years, then maybe it would be good to turn a negative into something positive and move on?
Sport/life is full of feelings like this, and it is one of the reasons why people give sport up. Nopesport (nope posters, don't take this too hard please!) is a very good showcase for watching outsiders test the water, and watching the response from insiders, who vary considerably in defensiveness/inclusive behaviour! (interestingly, I'm not sure there's a way to unsubscribe but haven't checked since recent update. Think nope membership can be discontinued by management if you become inactive though!)
you should be able to see my e mail address in profile, and you can get my phone number from the WMOA directory.
Happy Christmas to you all.

Interesting suggestion kitch. But making ip information visible to anyone / registered users only is a step to decreasing anonymity of users.
We've always held anonymity (i think its spelt right) pretty highly here. And although being unable to distinguish between guests is frustrating they have the right to be completely anonymous to the general public.

Why?
because they got beat by SCOA, i guess you dont know much about the juniors swuads in 1999. and thats ok, i dont expect you to.
i think it was ross' mighty run on the relay that pulled it out the bag. legend

The lack of coaches in SCOA is certainly an issue but is a symptom of a larger problem. The reason SCOA has been languishing at the bottom of the JIRC results for the last few years is because it can't put out a full team as it doesn't have enough juniors is some age classes. This isn't for want of trying (oh to be as exclusive as only accepted juniors with a light green standard). An earlier post showed how regional squads rely on clubs to bring juniors in to the sport and in SCOA this just isn't happening (witness the lack of any Yvette Baker Trophy round in the region). It isn't all bad though - a couple of clubs in the region do some sterling work with schools but this just doesn't seem to translate into club members. Answers on the back of a postcard....
