Having just checked the Fukuoka marathon results (see below)I'm wondering how many top orienteers have run sub 2:20 marathons?
1 OGATA,Tsuyoshi JPN 2:09:10
2 OSAKI,Satoshi JPN 2:10:56
3 1 KORIR,Sammy KEN 2:11:45
Marten B Bostrom was aiming for 2:18 but did improve his PB running 2:22:51 for 18th place. Interestingly he did beat Michael Rotich who ran 2:25:21 some 19 minutes off his best.
Taking into account Marten being only 22, this must be one of the best marathon results by an orienteer? Anyone know what Carsten/others have run?

Thanks Paddy
I'm sure Jogge did something fast... but not sure. And I'd completely forgotten about Jan Fjarested - he ran in the Olympics for Norway I'm sure & I think he might also have skiied in the Winter version.... interesting, I'm going to find out some times.
But on a more modern note & talking about speed - below are the various levels that the Lithuania Team members are expected to reach...
Moterys
3000m- 10.20-pirmas, 9.45-kandidatas į sporto meistrus

10000m-37.50-pirmas, 35.30-kandidatas į sporto meistrus
10km plentu-38.00-pirmas, 35.40-kandidatas į sporto meistrus
Vyrai
3000m-8.50-pirmas, 8.25-kandidatas į sporto meistrus
5000m-15.20-pirmas, 14.30-kandidatas į sporto meistrus
10000m-32.00-pirmas, 30.20-kandidatas į sporto meistrus

Current kenyan PWT runner who also featured in O sport a while back, Peter Gitura has done around 2.10 i think. But he is primarily a marathon runner...fair enough as he's on the kenyan team!
