I seem to remember that a while back there was some sort of analysis of how many toilets should be booked for what event, depending on the number of competitors. I think it was in a Focus not too long ago, but not 100% sure.
Does anyone have those numbers close to hand?
Thanks!

Don't have it to hand, but the article was (also) in the last edition of SCORE and was written by Donald Petrie the SOA Professional officer. I'll e-mail him and ask if he can post the details.
Yes, I am alright.

The article was also published in the Autumn 2004 edition of focus. There were many points made but the gist of it was
Recommended numbers were as follows
Competitors 150 250 500 1000 2000 3000 4000
Toilets 2 3 5 8 16 23 31
plus loos at the start if the distance from assembly to start is more than 2k

The article is also on the SOA Website. (Link is broken at the moment)

It is important that the whole article is read by anyone considering hiring
toilets for an event as there are many factors to be considered.
There is also an article on E-coli and coming soon the organisers favourite...parking.
Expect to pay about £40 each to hire plus £1 per mile for both delivery and collection

The SOA Major Event Guidlelines will say (probably)
Ensure adequate toilets are on site. Self-contained toilets are preferred to avoid problems with waste disposal as sewers are rarely found in fields. A general rule is 1 toilet per 70 – 80 competitors. If the start is some distance away from the assembly area consider placing a few as close to the start as possible, but advise the competitors the facilities at the start are limited to avoid over-use.

Or you could just borrow a couple of those little brown tent things from ELO that you can hardly fit in
