Well you can piss off Gross 'cos you're wrong. the BOF fixture list says its the Yvette Baker Trophy and District Event.
Personally I think that Gross is right in that if it's a junior competition (and that's the main point of the YBT final) there doesn't necessarily have to be something for the adults.
But Mrs. H is right in that WCH have advertised it as a Distirict event, meaning that there should be a District event. (And not only for the parents of YBT juniors, for anyone else who wants to go to it as they would go to a normal CC event - although we've decided to go to another event on the way to the training tour, this is one that CUOC had considered as an option).
When WAOC organised the final last year, there was simply a Y, O, LG and G course for YBT plus an 'extra green' for any parents or helpers. That way the YBT courses were only run by the juniors, which seems like a sensible way of doing it.

It's spelt GRAMMAR you arse hole - and when you've spent as much time ferrying your kids around as I have mine - I'll allow you to lecture me on what I'm entitled to or deserve
thanks Porky - i know about the warm up event - but that's actually on a different day isn't it.

Re YBT final,
I am talking from my point of view rather than as an official Chasers reply...
We took yesterdays round on after another club pulled out at the last minute and there were no other W Mids events suitable to hold it. We didn't plan to take on a qualifier and a final in the same year, and we are holding the qualifier next year, too.
I am sorry we ran out of SI cards (we were 3 short at the end of the day) - I (as SI equipment bod) hadn't thought to hire in extra, we haven't needed to do that for years. Clubs turned up to do YBT without telling us in advance, which didn't help. We didn't have any more competitors than at a normal district event. Extra cards will be available for the final, should they be needed.
We normally use Fatboys programme for District events, which would allow it, but even then, we haven't needed to. If we had recycled cards yesterday, other competitors times would have been overwritten and lost. When it came to light that we had none left, club members went through their unused equipment and came up with more available, but competitors had already found them from club members. Mrs H. spoke to me about her concerns from registration. I have passed these on to higher ranks, and thought that matter was closed.
We were using OE software to make sure it works well in the final, together with the YBT software, as that will be pre-entry and therefore done in OE with allocated start times etc. No point in using something for the first time at a major event.
The final is advertised as District event and YBT final so that any non-YBT who wants to run has an opportunity to. The courses will be different for the final than for the open event. It could have been just the YBT final as a closed event, and then people would want to know why they couldn't run, too. We felt having the open event first, with just the juniors out in the forest afterwards would still make it feel like more of a "special event" for the juniors and hopefully there will be more people around to support them. Just because you can run earlier doesn't mean you have to if you are worried about it turning into a long day.
I am sure if we are short on start times we can extend the start time interval. If we started any earlier, clubs from further afield would have very early starts.
We are making a big effort to make this a competitor and spectator friendly day. More details will be given nearer the time. You can pick faults in any event if you try to, and you can't please everybody all of the time.

Now, now.... Mrs H is getting a little tetchy isn't she:) Bet I've driven my kids further to orienteering than you've driven yours
But back to the point........ I'm sure WCH will do a great job with the YBT and also allow the adults to play thier games and stop throwing thier rattles out of the pram

As I said Stodgetta - i don't envy Walton Chasers the logistics of the event - and i think it would have made it a lot simpler for you if it had been a junior only competition - and despite what gross might think i would have been more than happy to have brought my children ( and no doubt several others whose parents didn't want to as has happened in the past) but having been given the expectation of a run on the chase i guess i would be disappointed not to get one and i think it very probable that either Mr H. or I will forego our run to make sure everyone else is in the right place at the right time. I'm sure WCH will cope with the challenge admirably and the event will be a great success.

Sounds OK to me. I enjoyed yesterday's area, easy though it might have been, because it was runnable. You didn't have to plough through bracken like normal on the chase, I hope the final area is the same for the sake of the kids. I've often been ashamed of teachers/supporters who have complained at British Schools cos they couldn't run. I'm sure the organisers would welcome help collecting in controls, but then of course the said adults want to get home, or have the excuse that they have their charges to consider!!!!!
We've never been to a final before as in the past there has not really been too much effort by juniors to take part in YBT, they've always prefferred the PP Relay, but now it's got a bit of a reputation, the juniors want to go. We are going to tell our juniors to enjoy the atmosphere, particularly the less experienced youngsters as this will be great for junior development.

I'm struggling with the relevance of this comment - unless you are also suggesting that i am being unreasonable in hoping for a run at the YBT - I cannot ever recall expressing disappointment at a junior only competition that i havn't had a run. Oh and where does the "We are going to tell our juniors" come from I heard one of the junior captains say she was going for an all out win?
and Gross - stop acting like the Pope - it doesn't suit you.

On the subject of dibbers:
BOF has a set of 100 dibbers specifically bought to support development events like the YBT: they used to be lent to events on the proviso that no charge was made for their use. There has also been money in the past to support SI Card hire - so I suspect a talk with Hilary Palmer etc. will see help in ensuring sufficient dibbers on the day.
Stodgetta - it sounds great: I think your club's idea of getting the District event off first is a really good one, and thank you for thinking about those clubs travelling further (we will be by no means the furthest!). It looks as if it'll be a big 'un: the biggest previous entry was 250 juniors (from 12 clubs), and I suspect it'll be one of the biggest club turnouts yet. The North West round produced the largest number of qualifiers in a match yet.
But I would be extremely unhappy if numbers were limited: the primary aim of the YBT was inclusion of all club juniors. To start making it elitist would be dead against the spirit of the event. In fact, I don't think it'll be as big an issue as some might predict (ever the optimist): further clubs rarely bring more than 20-30, and closer clubs usually bring 50 or so, and it's not blown the system yet.
Better to ride the wave this year, and then look at reducing numbers of qualifiers next year (or specifically catering for them?).
Fantastic to see the event so popular, and even the Compass Sport competitions now borrowing the rule format. All stemming from a one off match held in Bradford about 10 years ago. Zabadabadoo!

The YBT Final
Just a few tasters of some of the things Chasers are preparing for YBT Final to try and make it memorable.
The assembly area and finish are possibly in one of the most public places to have orienteering event - Milford Common, should be a good spectacle.
After the qualifying event yesterday we managed to get broadband internet access down to the common (600 metres) with the help of a stepladder on my roof and a couple of antennae.
The idea at the moment is to port results live to the web every 5 mins
(actually the results went up from yesterdays event 3 times during the event as we always try to do if we hace mobile phone coverage)
A live feed to the chasers website from a webcam or two covering the finsh. (So mums and dads at home and those at the Nopesport birthday bash can follow the action)
Radio controls on each of the competitive courses (not the district event courses) will be linking back to commentary provided by MC Pooley.
Only thing we need now is one of those large screens like the Oringen!!!!!!!
Obviously this is still provisional and I will post nearer the time with an update.
Is there anything else (budgets permitting) that people would like to see ?

Wowzer - sounds fantastic! Would anybody knowledgeable about that kind of stuff like to talk to OUOC's race officer (the technically incompetent moi) about how these things work?!
Will? We've got proper fire now!

Please could someone post to the Junior Forum a correction to the following statement from becks:
OK - final scores:
1. Aire - 891
2. Dee - 888
3= MDOC - 868
3= SROC - 868
5. PFO - 866
Which means that Aire, Dee, MDOC and SROC all qualify. (Aire and Dee because first two do in a 5-way fixture. Because Aire finished top 5 last year and in one of qualifying places, the next team down also goes, but in qualifiers there is no countback, and therefore MDOC and SROC also qualify.
UNFORTUNATELY there is only an extra qualifying place when ALL the qualifiers also finished in the top 5 of the previous year's final. Thus AIRE and DEE qualify, but as only AIRE finished in the top five there is no extra qualifying place. Tough on MDOC and SROC, but that's the rules.

We seem to be losing track of the original thread here. Who is going to supply a list of gold standard competitors, cos it is not really possible to officiate without a full list then it is fair for all. I'm fairly certain that in qualifiers there were some breaches, but not worth contesting as not affect result but it should be clear for the final. Kids don't always know themselves if they have gold standard or not. Also what is onechampionship standard worth?
At yesterday's West Midlands event the Yellow and Orange courses seem to have been easy pickings for the 14 and 16 year olds. Tough on the genuine 12 and 14 year olds who aren't even allowed to run these courses.

There was an earlier reference to Adults wishing to run at junior only events. I know you didn't attend the event in question there was no reference to this event which has not been billed as junior only. Please read the whole before getting uptight.
Re the second part I heard the junior captains say they were going to tell the juniors to enjoy the event. To my mind enjoying and trying to win are not mutually exclusive
