There is a proposal up before the next Rules Group meeting (13th November) concerning changing the scoring system for the Compass Sport Cup/Trophy. The new proposal can be seen here and I have copied the new scoring system (which is similar to that used at the Yvette Baker) below.
If you have any thoughts then let your relevant club officials know, so that they may send the feedback before the meeting.
Proposal
The Competition changes to use the Yvette Baker Trophy scoring format.
In qualifying rounds where the winning club finished in the top three in the Final in the previous year, then the second placed team also qualifies for the Final.
How will this work?
Retain the use of colour coded courses
Scoring:
The winner on each Compass Sport Cup Course scores 100 points.
Scoring on each Compass Sport Cup Course will be then be 100, 99, 98, etc.
Cup
25 scores to count, maximum of 5 counters from any one Compass Sport Cup Course
Trophy
10 scores to count, maximum of 2 counters from any one Compass Sport Cup Course
Where clubs finish on equal points, positions will be determined by looking at the best scores of the 26th (Cup) or 11th (Trophy) eligible counter (ie from within the maximum 5 or 2 counters per course) for each team. Then, if needed, the next best and so on.

i dont know who my club official is so i'll just say it here for someone else to tell their club official
i dont think that would work. what if you only 10 people at the race??? it should go on count back of the highest socreres. so
100,100,100,100,100,100,100,100,100,90
would beat
100,100,100,100,100,100,100,100,95,95
If it is still equal after all of that (but i think 25 countbacks might sort it out) then both teams go through, simple. its the quality of your team, not the size.
agreed???

Shall we just call it the "Rules Change Every Year" Trophy?!
I guess it makes sense to try to reflect what the majority of clubs and individuals think the rules should be, but changing things too often just makes it harder for Club Captain's and event organisers.
Anyway, good luck in reaching a consensus Peter!

It's not 100% clear from the rules, but if the YBT scheme is adopted, then everybody running for a club eligible for that course scores points, so if you pack into the top 7, the highest score from another club on that course is 93 (under the old rules, only the top X from each club scored points).
To my mind, this is a major improvement on the scoring system. It's far more inclusive, far more club orientated as it plays to a clubs strengths - pitting them against another club's strengths: one club strong in juniors against another club strong in vets, one club with loads of good female orienteers versus another with a lot of good men. Iit means that even those not counting for a clubs top 25/10 can still count by knocking other club runners down the points. If YBT history is anything to go by, it will create far closer, more exciting matches. The Compass Sport Cup might even emulate last year's YBT finish, where just 2 points covered the top 3 teams!
I disagree Mharky. The rule is better as it stands. If you've only got 10 runners out, then tough, the other club has got 11 out, and gets the nod because they've got more strength in depth. Again, it means that the non-counters can play an important part.
I ought to declare an 'interest' here, having written the YBT rules. But even so, more power to your elbow Peter, the Compass Sport Cup looks so much more a real club competition with this change. Great stuff.

Definitely better. Allows more people to count and reduces incentive to run up for large club members. But still with unnecessary restrictions on small clubs.
Large clubs can now count five (formerly three) per course. Small clubs can still only count two. Since it is the small clubs which struggle most to field a full team, why don't they get the added flexibility?
Only downside is the further loss of a head-to-head knockout feel to the competition. With this format (as in YBT) you might as well have a straight final.

I support the rules if they encourage clubs to take part en masse rather than just send a few elite to fill the top places or import club members from foreign climbs as has happened in the past. Also It might help some of the older competitors(particularly women) who feel it's not worth while going as they have to do a green course against men and much younger females.
I have only once scored on a compass sport cup/trophy and that was running/walking a light blue for WYE. Generally I turn up but often don't run competitively as I don't feel there is much point as I'm a recreational orienteer. Last year I had to run competitively as we were short in the class due to illness and injury. Needless to say I didn't score a point but came close.
