the RR contingent faired well with Robin and Chris Sloan in 54th on Medium score.Fiona Forrest (formely of RR) and Declan McGrellis were 6th on C so they were also involved in a sprint finish at the top of the leaderboard.

Anyone else think the best thing about the kimm this year was balloon beds? hours of fun making poodles and anteaters with the left over balloons and then when it got dark doing sillohette puppetry from tent to tent. Then in the morning the sound of hundreds of people popping their balloons which at first i thought was some kind of machine gun attack. I'll be taking one next year.. oh except i said i was never doing the kimm again.. again.

Lol! I got a bit confused in the morning by all the firework noises until i realised what they were! Wasn't too impressed by the wake up call at 6am though...we didn't have to get up til 8! Considering I only got roped in to do it last week and had therefore done no training, I really enjoyed it...definlately going to try and enter next year!
I'm not lost, I just don't know my precise location in the environment...

ah the balloon beds, we were discussing them on saturday night (somewhere around the 4th course of dinner) and their stupidity and i had jokingly mentioned making poodles

oj oj oj! balloon beds are genius. and it took marky about 2 hours to successfully make a poodle, after some failed cumberland sausage type attempts, while we prepared and enjoyed our just as tasty 4 course dinner and there was some guy celebrating his 40th birthday in the next field, there was even a tent with glowsticks, a proper little rave. no champagne or men in kilts but all in all it was probably an equally fun night.

well, i was an official this year, at the score start. it looks really challenging, I definitly would like to have a go next year. must be the same mentallity that drives one into the woods to orienteer every week that gets you to run way to far up way too many hills in one weekend.

I marshalled one year (Clyde Muirshiel) before competing the following year (Cheviots), and found that having some idea about what actually happens at the event was very helpful. This year I couldn't find a partner, so marshalled again (2nd control on A day 1, Long & Med Score day 2). Aiming to compete next year. By the way, the thanks from the competitors passing through was unexpected first time around, but still appreciated if less unexpected this time. One odd episode at the Clyde Muirshiel event was when a team arrived at my hill top sheepfold - they weren't on a course that should have got there, so I checked the names and their map. One was Mike Stroud, who had been given an Elite map instead of the A he was doing. (I guess map choice isn't such a consideration in Antarctica). After about 30 mins on the radio, I passed over the checkpoints they should visit & they went off on their way.

Ooh well done to Declan and Fiona...the only people I believe I know were competing!
