Just to comment on what can and cannot be done to start lists at WREs, the only definite (IOF) condition is that the start interval is 3 minutes for the Long race and 2 for Middle distance (12.14).
Rules 12.2 and 12.4 refer to a start draw to be approved by the IOF Event Advisor - which seems to suggest that the list must be randomised. However, wearing my IOF World Rankings hat, I would advise that these rules are meant more for JWOC/WCup/WOC than for WREs and that local methods of producing the start lists for WREs are fine.
Thus, any problems re split starts, early/middle/late starts, etc are entirely the responsibility of BOF Rules/Appendices/Guidelines rather than of the IOF.

Just looked at the info supplied by ESG about start lists for WRE's.... you can request a start time earlier than that to which you are entitled but not a later one.........
So in the hypothetical situation where both parents are entitled to start in the 'slowest' group i.e. earliest...... they couldn't ask for a late start. If both had late start entilement one could request an early start.

which will be a shame as I aim to kick ass in my first year on W 50s

Of course - there is an easier way - we could just ban Graeme
More likely than getting me to act my age .

Thats right. What has in fact happened is that parents (not just me) have been told by the organisers that we cant start earlier, so arranged suitable childcare: then turned up at the "right" time only to be told "Good news - we did manage to arrange an earlier start for you, but I'm afraid you've missed it now and no, you can't start at the "right" time".

Well, i'm assuming that's you Graeme, we need to agree a strategy now - so you tell me what you want to do and i'll ask the people concerned if it's possible (I'm sorry I had a go at you - I was so disappointed because I thought that was what you wanted - and all I want to do is make everyone happy and make them think back on the JK as a really enjoyable event)
