Haverthwaite and Holme Fell are my favorites from the lakes as i they are some of the most technical areas I've run on outside Scandinavia.
More locally it can only be Harlow Wood because it looks inocuous, but its actually really difficult to hit every control and it favors strength over speed unlike most areas in the region and those surrounding it.

Agreed. If it is the map's prob wrong. The best areas are runnable enough that you have to back off to navigate accurately.

Still trying to figure out if that was a thinly veiled insult from Mharky! I'm not convinced though - watch some of your new junior squaddies wander around Loughrigg for the first time and even at walking pace they find it difficult.
Will? We've got proper fire now!

i meant it as i said it. if you go slow it gives you time to take in all the detail and look at the map for ages. i guess you have to know what your doing in the first place.
the best area for me is somthing you can ge though, not too much visibility, and some good technical countours.

I think what Mharky is saying is once you get to level x of navigation it's not about being able to read the detail it's how fast you can read it. Hence if you go slow enough you won't find it hard. Perhaps the exception is vague areas rather than complex areas.

exactly, like finding a small depression in light green on epping, but then the slower you go the more accurate you'll probably stick to your compass. you just got to find the right balance. its all about control. and the better you get the faster you can go whilst being in control.... so lets go orienteering!!!

Love to but stuck at my desk
It's true that compass work improves the slower you go I agree.
