Why are they takings a team to the World Schools, its British Schools OA, part of British OF.
What happened to the Scottish PWT team aswell.
Do they want to break free?

also some confusion shown with this
SOA meeting minutes wrote:] The most recent development regarding orienteering and the Commonwealth Games is the staging of a Commonwealth Championships. Various ex Commonwealth Games sports have gone down this road in an attempt to regain entry into the Games. It is understood that BOF may be investigating this possibility in conjunction with the 2005 World Cup race to be held in England. The holding of a Commonwealth Championship at any event where a GB team is taking part raises the question of competitors in this team also being able to represented their home nation in a Commonwealth Championships, each of the four home nations being represented separately at the Commonwealth Games. The SOA agreed support for this project but would not wish to see the weakening of the Scottish Team through GB representation by any of its eligible members.
The question of non IOF Commonwealth Countries not being able to compete at a Commonwealth Championships if it was held in conjunction with an IOF event was raised.

My understanding is that GB will pick a team of 6 as normal for the World Cup. Those athletes then declare whether they are English, Northern Irish, Scottish or Welsh. England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales can the pick more athletes to bring their own totals up to 6. These punters (hopefully including me ) then get to run several hours after the World Cup race together with the runners from the Isle of Man, Jersey, Guernsey, Falklands, Bermuda etc.

I think the comments in the SOA minutes misrepresent the facts... & since I put the facts forward I'll correct them here:) For some time I have been looking into getting Orienteering into the Commonwealth Games & it has been discussed with BOF. It seems that a prerequisite to the Games is to hold a Commonwealth Championship. The loss of EOC status to the English WC in 2005 provided the opportunity to tag CC onto the WC & BOF are looking into the logistics. Australia & some other nations have agreed. Problem is that Home Nation runners can't compete in WC & the team would be split. My own view is that Scotland (as that's my responsibility) shouldn't compete unless we have 100% control of our team.. and in any case the results can't really be compared if the Home Nation run at a different time from the WC...
But for the greater good of getting O into the CG it is a good opportunity & I recommended that the SOA support this... despite my own views...
Time will tell... but since I'm quitting as SOA Performance Boss & buggering off to live in the East... then I doubt if anyone from Scotland will appear to drive this forward... another problem is there is no-one representing England...

The smiths family are canadian-i think its two brothers, can't quite remember, but one is married to a senior swedish womens member-katarina smith who did well last year-19th in long final-could be eligable to run for canada i think. the brothers also competed in the world champs in switzerland and had respectable results-nothing to threaten GB results though.

Ted st de coix, candian an Stora Tuna legend. what about Sandy hott Johanson, i heard her hubby is a bit of a leg end at this game.
with regard the the commonwealth games & world cup stuff
I think getting orienteering into the CwGames would be excellent. I think that having commonwealth championship in the WC would be good, but the Great Britain team would come first, they select the team, and then as godders said all the other nations can stack up on who is left to get full teams for the CW, and they run afterwards.
All i know is that when I run in those World Cups in 2005 i'm going to be running for Great Britain

what you reckon he'll make the M21e team? I'd reckon that you'ld be there before him, remember, you could have had a place at the SHI's last year! Yet more goals for you to train towards young Edward. Don't be daft and get ill tho, i heard about you last saturday.
(no offence peterb but i reckon maybe the commonwealth champs or games 4 years later might be more managable)
