It seems like generally people want world cups they just don't want woc every year. Just from people i've spoken to. But woc is going to be every year so maybe end of world cups IS close.
Possible in future that it could be like
yr1 woc and eoc and world studs
yr2 woc and nordics and world games
This seems like a more sensible programme to me. Isn't world cup kind of meaningless with woc being every year? Who are the daddys of 2004? The World Champions or whoever ends up with the most World Cup points at the end of this week?

i think there are two reasons there aren't so many people going:
1. most peoples seasons ended at woc and now they're resting/training for next year
2. everyones saving money for japan.
it might make more sense if the world cup is to stay to have the final the same as the world champs and two sets before that

I'm sure I remember reading something in the latest issue of Skogsssport about the World Cup being discontinued but I'll have to check it this evening when I get home. I do remember in the same article them saying that the World Cup races in England next year would not be granted European Champs status so bang goes the chance of some extra funding (although I can understand that decision).
Still, coming back to this week's events, got to wish my wee bruv all the best and hope the team get some good results after all the hard work put in this season.

Yeah i read that about talk of discontinuing world cups.
The reason the GB:WCs aren't European Champs is because the Nordic countries (who i think have a lot of reps on IOF) objected to EOC being every year because it would detract from the Nordic Champs. The Europeans is essentially the same as the Nordics now anyway with 6 being allowed to run and everything, except not always in Nordic terrain obviously. So the Europeans will be every other year.
Anyway it's World Cups this week and we have a team so good luck to them all.

To answer Ruth's question.
If you really want to you can view a copy of the special rules here
http://www.orienteering.org/rules/wc2004.doc
Means that all 4 & 4 can run in all races, but you only score points for a top 40 position ie you have to qualify for A final, which is top 17 in the heats for sprint & middle qualifiers.
Then all runners can run Long Final even if no World Cup points -although they would start in early seeded block.
But as there are only 44 women entered all qualify for finals of sprint & middle.
I Dont know what the plan is for the relay if the team has been decided beforehand or go with form during the week.
Go GBR!
