EPO - Edinburgh Park Orienteering - performance enhancing?
What do people in Edinburgh (and nearby) think of the EPO races?
From late April to June the clubs in the East of Scotland clubs organise Wednesday evening events in and around Edinburgh. For the last three years Gillian and I have organised various mass start and chasing start races at these to encourage the better orienteers to go along and also provide some good training / racing practice. Some of them were very popular but last year the turn out was very disappointing.
Before we do anything for this year we want to know if anyone is interested in Wednesday evening races and if so what/where/when.
Specifically: would you prefer all the EPO races to be inside the City Bypass (so that they are easy to get to by bike/on the bus) or would you prefer better quality orienteering further away?
If there was a Forth Valley evening event on a better area near Stirling would you prefer to go to that?
Would you be prepared to organise the race one week (usually just involves finding out what courses have been planned anyway and drawing up some maps)?
Is having a mass start / short start intervals (eg 30seconds) what you want?
Are starts at 7pm OK or would you rather run earlier (remembering that some of us do some work!)
Discuss here or send me a message.
Thanks,
Godders

i think its a good chance to get some decent head to head racing in and breaks up the monotony of just doing another running session. Keep em going I say! It would be good if as many as possible were within easy reach by bike or bus but if you are going further afield for events it is quite easy to try and fix everyone up with lifts at intervals the night beforehand.

It will only work if everyone can get there. Otherwise you'll get half a group at best and it'll go the way of Andy K's "training squad". So certainly don't start earlier than 7:00.
Would suggest keeping it in town (Pentlands OK), or arrange to all meet at (say) Pollock at 6:30 and drive out.
Consider some novel venues/formats not used for a while (Grange Estate, KB, Inch, Flotterstone - yes I'm offering). Should be more a fun/social thing than a hard session assuming you're doing physical sessions Tues/Thurs. (Head to head is OK)

I enjoyed the epo races last year, it was good to have an organised race to go to midweek. i would be prepared to travel further than the bypass and can offer lifts when i'm going. I also thought a mixture of mass starts and short interval starts were good. cheers for last years events godders et al!
