Despite a very tight timetable which assumes that a detailed proposal will be voted on at the 2005 AGM (!) I can find no mention of this on their website or in the recent Focus, even though it will affect every regular orienteer in the country. All the details that I have come from a paraphrased summary discussed by our regional committee last week, at which the proposal came in for a great deal of criticism. I think it's sufficiently important to post these incomplete details here for discussion - hopefully some members of Council will read this thread, and all of you have representation on Council through your region if you would like to let them know your views.
Summary:
- everyone joining a Club will join BOF (membership system administered centrally)
- BOF fees to be £10 per senior (costs for juniors, families etc. unknown)
- event levy to be raised by 50p (to £1.50-£2)
- non-members to be surcharged £3 at all apart from introductory events
Some initial questions: Why has this proposal not been widely publicised? Where are the detailed costings? What research has been done into what orienteers are prepared to pay for events/membership? What efforts have been made to reduce expenditure instead of trying to raise income?
