Hold onto your horses matey - was anyone else actually asked - can't recall anything coming up at HOC (or even possibly WM level). Mr H. (HOC chairman says he would have been willing to give it a go if poss. (He tried to stage the British schools score as no-one else seemed to want to but rutting deer got in the way so OD have taken it on at VERY short notice

I think you're being really harsh on derek here, i thought it was a pretty decent event (but then again it was my first JHIs ) It was unfortunate bout the mp mistakes on the first day but i thought that was sorted?! Well done to the welsh btw! U guys were on bootie-kicking form for the individuals!

andy L wrote:I disagree with you Jene. I think the JHIs were organised amazingly considering it was a very much one-man, Derek Allison, effort. No-one else had agreed to do it and he bravely took charge by himself and I think it was a great effort. Faulty SI boxs are not the organisers fault- they failed during the competition.

I hate to sound like Gross(!) .. but, if anyone was buying an electronic system now I wouldn't go with sport ident. Regular failures of units occur out here in Aus as well - there seems to be a major issue with battery power, sounds like sleep mode doesn't save enough energy. And you do therefore get random failures of the units. Not to mention more work for organisers than emit, etc, etc...

I agree, many congratulations to the welsh on many fantastic results. I think its fair to say its gonna be a while before the irish are as strong.
I thought the organisation for the events was very good. Although saturday night wasn't as good as it could have been. But perhaps I'm just getting old!

the comment about one man job is true to an extent, but the spains, brocklebanks and some others were helping a lot as well and they deserve a lot of credit as does dereks family
no thats rubbish, competing with emit is harder in a way, the new boxes (not yet in britain) are better, and the we barely have failures as we charge the batteries well, and that obviously wasn't done. I do however find that the si boxes only effecting 2 people, both welsh a little strange but what do i know?
and congrats jene (if u dunno what i mean i jumped over u 2 a few times)

Crikey Rob - you don't half know how to get yourself in trouble - do you not think some big burly Welsh boyo might just want to take you apart one day
I was just wondering if some of the disappointment about the JHIs might have been a question of expectation over reality after JIRCS. Hopefully JIRCS was the shape of things to come - and I can promise you all some real high class banter and japes at the JK event campsite next year - but with the best will in the world it's going to take time. the best thing it to keep saying what you want - but don't be too disappointed if you don't get it.

it wasnt just the welsh number 22 on m16 wasnt working when i went to it.
overall i think the weekend was good apart from the evening meal which was shocking since we had to run next day!also i though that a different area could have been found than hampfell which was used 4 years ago.
and a must go to the welsh for challenging the scots especially in the individual if only your relays were better you could have really been a threat.
oh and well done england....

Well I know that 2 controls on my course weren't working...so it wasn't only those 2 Welshies!
I had great fun at the JHIs this year-once I eventually made it back from the forest on Saturday (bumped into a few pixie mates halfway through so stopped for abit of a chat, ya know how it is, just didn't wanna be rude to them!)
Thankfully they weren't about for the relays so I had no delay there, hence, a decent run, wahey.
Congrats to Wales, VERY impressed Ye will hafta put on a great ol' JHIs next year, sniff, my final one!
Best performance for last, eh.

I want to walk up the side of the mountain, I want to walk down the other side of the mountain. I want to swim in the river, lie in the sun. I want to try being nice to everyone.

This might not be the best place to post this but considering BOF are so keen to attract new members, why is there no mention of JHI on its website - no info on what it is, selections, results etc.
In fact I think it would have been pretty impossible to know it was even taking place if you didn't know someone who was competing- only the Scots posted their team on their web-site, England doesn't appear to even have one! I could go on at length but had better shut up now...
