It's not rubbish ...!
SI is more work than emit for organisers.
There is a problem with battery life - especially if they have to be put out the day before an event (and left in sleep mode).
You do get "random" failures - that only effect a few people on the course not everyone. (last time the JHI was at Hampsfell I was helping and actually saw this at a control).
maybe athletes find it easier to use than emit, but that's got to be quite marginal.
