I went to Edinburgh the other day for possibly only the 2nd time ever (sounds shocking I know).
I was quite taken with the place and I was wondering whether there has ever been a street-o (along the lines of York/Venice). I've heard there has been local events of this kind and of course the rat race had something in it but was wondering whether there's been or any plans to have something bigger.
As a tourist I found it quite confusing.

that's a shame.
It would be nice to start some sort of street-o league, maybe about 4 or 5 events in the year (less if there's no time). If they're done somewhere touristy it'd be great for the sport.
How about.
York
Oxford
Edinburgh
Cardiff
or something

the thing i keep banging on about and keep getting told that it cant be done is this -
3 short races in a day
campus O
Kings Buildings - Edin Uni Science Campus a wee bit out of town whcih backs onto a mapped area and has so many little paths and dad ends and loads of greenery and a tiny tiny little bit of really nice woods.
Pollock Halls - Edin Uni main halls of residence. backs onto arthurs seat and agin has lots of little paths and back alleys and such like
then the finale starting and finishing in Bristo Square - a square in the middle of town withamphitheatre type steps round the outside, in the middle of the main edin uni area, again lots of back alleys ets a bit of greenery, backs onto the meadows, great start and finish area for spectators.
3 short races makes a day of it and makes it worth travelling
or just do it in the cowgate area which is crazy.
edinburgh is the best city i have ever seen for tricky street o. it would be amazing.

STAG have a yearly event where there are 3 short races in a day (about 3km or so) in glasgow parks. I've been to one and absolutely loved it.
They keep the location of the first park a secret till about 3 days before then tell you the next park when you've run the first/second one. First race normal starts, second one reverse start list from first race, third race chasing start. Simple yet very very fun.
Andy.

i heard a rumour (from jason inman) that someone had done a sweet map of the centre of edinburgh just for the hell of it and it had never been used for a race - mapped all the alleyways and steps.
there was a sprint race held in national orienteering week in princes street gardens and it went into a bit of the old town. godders got famous by wearing his gb kit!

The Oxford Sprint O is already happening on the Friday of the World Cup week - 5th May I think (though it's a long time since I looked at the date!). It'll be a loop race in the evening with access to the inside of some of the colleges - not to be missed! There should be a National Event the day after, so there's no excuses!
Will? We've got proper fire now!

That sounds fun Becks. Did a few Street-Os as training back in my day, but getting into the colleges would be well cool.
Will this just be "official" routes inside? There are a few walls between colleges I recall being pretty climable.

It's a magical world. Let's go exploring.

Back to an Edinburgh Street-O... Sounds like a good thing for Interlopers to organise... Anyone like to suggest a date? (Not too soon - someone'd have to dig out / make a map of it) If we can do it in time, what about something on the weekend of the EUOC 40th Birthday bash?? - Saturday afternoon?? Alc-O in Princes Street Gardens - maybe not!
(And there was me thinking I had far too much to do at the moment already! )

The more I think, the more confused I get...
