teehee , bring on the fun and games
should be a really good competition I hope, but i don't think we'll be able to pull out as good a signing as last year with mrs strain (but who knows what cunning tictacs murray'll have up his sleeve) coming off the bench to run a flier. and we might have to contend with clyde having a decent team - ally has promised his car won't break down on the way to the event this year!

for anyone who doesnt know the format heres a wee explanation.... not sure it'll actually clarify anything, its a bit like explaining the off side rule
teams of 11, for open anyone can run hence fvo winning with a team of senior guys two years ago.
legs one and 11 are standard relay legs while the middle 9 are run with three team members out in the forest at once.
the first leg is a 'tartan' course - basically a short green. one runner runs this for each team. they then hand over to 3 runners, legs 2, 3 & 4, who will do either an orange, lt green or green. then when each of them finish they hand over to another runner, leg 5, 6 and 7 who again do orange, lt green or green and the same again for legs 8, 9 and 10. when the 10th runner for each team finishes the 11th runner goes out on another tartan course.
the fun of it is minimising the 'dead time' between the 8th and 10th runners finishing by juggling the middle runners around. by the end of it the team will have run 2xtartan, 3xorange, 3xlt green and 3xgreen.
its a format based on the swedish race 25-manna, and also the norwegian 15-staffetten, except that in those races there are age restrictions on certain legs which there once was in the past of 11-manna but were dropped recently because so few clubs could field competitive teams.

Not quite as impressive an entry as the Peter Palmer, but 18 teams for the 11 Person on Sunday should lead to some interesting competition. Defeding champs EUOC are fielding a weaken team with several of their established stars not available so the race looks wide open. INT look strong but there will be serious challenges from CLYDE, FVO and possibly ESOC. The visitors sheild will be contested this year with NATO and BL making the journey north. Hope the weathers good for the B.Y.O.F. BBQ.

is not about the team, its all about the tictacs
we've got an expected 3minutes of dead time/slack between 8th and 10th leg, and we're gonna take 2 hours for the whole thing
