Well done to those on the team, in particular the two juniors - its been a while since that happened!
And commiserations to Ewan and Gillian, very unlucky yet again.

I hadn't planned to, but since I'm now due to be working in Stockholm on Monday 20th Sept, there's no excuse not to get out there a couple of days early to watch the Middle & Relay.
Anyone else going from Sheffield?
p.s. well done everyone that made the team!!

isn't it a bit stupid for those who are just running the sprint distance. travelling to sweden and staying for a weekin an expensive hotel. just to run the sprint 20minutes max. The youngsters wil not have the chance to gain experience.
i don'n know how it is in britain buth in belgium it went also like that,
me and another guy just have to run the sprint. In belgium we have to pay a lot, because the federation doesn't have so much money.
probably i'll decide not to go ...
what are your thoughts?

Would have thought getting to run the sprint race at WOC would be a great way to gain experience. And a great opportunity to get a good result.
Guess it isn't as much of an issue here as the british athletes won't be paying their own way. Mind you if money was the issue I'd pay a lot more to run just the sprint at WOC than say 5 days of 21E at the oringen.

I understand your predicament, "Belgian WOC" - what I would do in your situation is enter all of the spectator races - there are 8 of them - and run all of these as well as running the world sprint race.
Thereby you get value for money - and you also get your chance to run in the World Championships.

Why just look at the sprint? It is a lot of money for Oli to go and just run the middle. It is a lot of money for Alison and Steve to just go and run the classic. It is a lot of money for Helen B, GG and Speaky just to go and run the sprint. The British selectors have picked the people that they think are the best people to run each discipline. If that results in people only running one day in 7 so be it. The expense is the cost of sending the best team. What better way of spending lottery money is there but sending the best possible team to the world champs? That is what the sport gets lottery funding for afterall! The situation in other countries I cannot comment on.

i'm thinking of heading over from sheffield, probably just for the thurs/fri/sat though. haven't booked any flights yet but i plan to sort it out this week...
oh, and apparently the price goes up after this weekend so enter the spectator races now!
