Historically we've rarely had enough depth in the age classes to see top results at these relays.

Yesterday 3 out of the 4 age classes got onto the podium (top 6).

This clearly shows that our current development pathway is improving.

It will continue to improve if clubs (irrespective of investment from BOA/SOA) do their bit to attract new young members and support them through the early colour-coded system.

This doesn't need lots of money, paid people or even qualified coaches(just the leader). All it needs is a lot of enthusiasm from a few people.

Historically, this is the best ever set of results at EYOC by a British team, across the four classes. From 62 relay teams dating back to 2001 when we started competing at this level, we've had six make it onto the podium, and one (M18 in 2006) get a medal.

Best performance at M16 was in 2008, from Tom Fellbaum, Duncan Birwhistle and Jonathan Crickmore, who were 5th , edging out the 2013 team of Andrew Barr, Callum White and Daniel Stansfield, who were 6th.

Top W16 (and we've frequently only sent two W16s , so didn't have an opportunity to run in the relay) was in 2010 from Rona Lindsay, Florence Haines and Lucy Butt, who were 4th. This year's team has equalled the 2nd-best performance, done by Pippa Dakin, Emma Wilson and Fiona Bunn in 2014, which was the last tome we had a podium team.

The 2006 M18 team is our only medallist - no team details available, but it would have been three from Hector Haines, John Rocke, Rhodri Buffet and David Schorah, who took the silver. Remarkably, Hector was our best in the Long, 49th.

Once again, this year's team is 2nd-best, along with the 2008 M18s (Peter Hodkinson, Matthew Halliday and Ralph Street), so good company to keep.

And Norway's relegation for not going to the start kite on leg 3 in W18 means this year's team is our best-ever, beating the 2009 team of Charlotte Watson, Jessica Orr and Rebecca Harding, who were 7th
