I'm a member of the Royal Institute of Navigation for professional reasons but also part of its Outdoor Adventure Navigation Group.

RIN is generally made up of engineers, scientists and technogists with a focus on navigation technology and methods; marine navigators; and non-commercial aviators. It exists to advance the art, science and practice of navigation. The OANG is putting some focus on land navigation and orienteering is often used as a case study. A series of webinars is being arranged, and one on the history of the hand-held compass and its development to support modern, elite land navigation would be of interest to RIN's members and potentially the wider public (orienteers).
If anyone works or has experience in that sector and would be willing to present, or can put me in touch with a representative of e.g. Silva, please message me.
And I'd welcome here a discussion on experiences with various hand held compasses as they've evolved over the decades that orienteering has been a sport.
Thanks very much,
