I'm currently co-ordinating the install of a new permanent orienteering course at the Nevis Range top gondola station.
I'm proposing to claim this as the highest permanent orienteering course in the UK once opened, assuming this is true! The course will start at the gondola station at c650m and provisionally the highest control will be at c790m.
Can anyone think of a higher course / control? The other candidate I'd looked at was the Windy ridge perm course over at Cairngorm, but the start for that c640m and highest control c765m, so think I'm clear of that.
Any higher offers? Else I will get it painted on the side of the promotional bus
thanks

Not much competition from here in York... we may go for the lowest though.

Re: Highest Permanent Orienteering Course in the UK
I doubt anyone can beat the Nevis Range or Windy Ridge, but how about bids for the third highest or maybe highest in England?
This course near Sheffield rises to 430m at control 10

Why not allow Wales in on the act too?
SWOC have regular events on Fan Fawr (the map is called "Storey Arms SW") which is on the other side of the A470 from Pen y Fan. The car park is at about 420 m and the highest control site I've found is at about 650 m.

Not a permanent course, but we have had to adjust the start times at Gullane to make sure the controls are in before the tide.

Could you take the permanet course to the top of Ben Nevis? There's a linear feature to follow along the Carn Mor Dearg Arete

Above the waves? What about the British Sprint Champs in Scarbrough where the first two finishers in men's elite ran through the waves?
