It would be helpful if embargoed areas for major events could be publicised better. I think the only requirement is to post on the BOF web site, and I may be wrong but I rarely notice BOF or the organsing clubs doing much publiciity. Unless you're actively searching, most competitors are unlikely to know when an area is embargoed.
If BOF and the organising club could announce the embargoes when they are posted that would help and perhaps BOF could periodically include the list in Newsletters. As well as ensuring embargoes serve the purpose they are intended for, its good publicity for the event.
Also it would be great if the BOF website could list the areas as well as the events - currently you have to click on each event in turn if you want to check whether a particular area is embargoed.

Re: Publicising Embargoed Areas
Okay, for what it's worth, embargoes for major FVO events in the next 13 months
Senior Home International Relay - 07/09/24
https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/edit? ... 89163&z=14
Senior Home International Individual (& Scottish Orienteering League) - 08/09/24
https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/edit? ... 19923&z=13
British Night Championships - 08/02/25
https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/edit? ... 76284&z=13
(there are two areas under embargo for this, as we're still negotiating the final details of permissions, but the expectation is that the event will be in the western of the two areas).

Re: Publicising Embargoed Areas
So embargoed areas are posted on the website (Go Orienteering -> Embargoed Areas)
I guess it would be handy that along with the competition and date it also listed the names of the areas so you can see that without clicking links?
You can generally see this information as well on the event finder by picking major and international events but the home internationals are national and it might help if they were also listed as major?

Re: Publicising Embargoed Areas
Received a newsletter from British Orienteering this morning - it started Dear Buzz, but I expect it went out to all members
Anyway, it was publicising major events this year and inlcuded a link to the embargoes page which has been completely revamped and now lists the actual venues.
https://www.britishorienteering.org.uk/embargoed_areas
Very useful and interesting to see what we have to look forwards to, many thanks, and if it was in response to this post, super speedy!
One of the embargoed areas is for an urban event just a mile or so from my house in Sheffield which I wasn't aware of previously. Not sure if this event and embargo has been publicised by SYO but I missed it. Great if clubs could follow British Orienteerings lead and make sure members and nearby clubs are aware.
Interested to know why an urban event in Sheffield has an embargo?

Think it's a national level event, so should have a 12 month embargo.
Two years for international and major events
12 months for national events
6 months (not wholly enforced) for regional events
