The Performance Pathway Steering Group (PPSG) is replacing the Talent & Performance Steering Group and as part of the process British Orienteering is seeking a new chair, following-on from Bob Dredge who is stepping down.
The PPSG will bring together athletes, staff, coaches and parents to oversee and guide the performance pathway in line with British Orienteering’s Thriving Clubs for a New Generation strategy. New Terms of Reference for the Group have been developed and can be found here.
British Orienteering is looking to recruit an influential and knowledgeable individual to act as Chair and lead the PPSG to fulfil the Terms of Reference and steer British Orienteering to deliver a successful and sustainable performance pathway.
The job description can be found here.
Applications are welcome from members with relevant experience of performance orienteering: please send a letter/email to peter.hart@britishoreinteering.org.uk by 5pm on 12th January to apply, outlining your experience and how you can lead this important group.
Feel free to reach-out to myself or Peter Hart with any queries.

Re: Performance Pathway Steering Group
Thanks for posting this – I’d missed it, and I’d been looking out for it – it slipped to the bottom of the BOF news pretty quickly!
What’s the board’s perspective on the changes? Is it just a seen as re-branding as your confectionary references suggest? I’d understood that the refresh was intended as a change of approach giving the Steering Group more responsibility for strategic planning, etc.
The change of leadership is long overdue, but I think a change of approach is also needed to ensure the aims and principles of the pathway reflect the views of stakeholders and benefit the sport as whole, and hopefully encourage more volunteers to get involved at all levels.

Re: Performance Pathway Steering Group
No it is seen as a deeper refresh. I think the overhauled terms of reference and the mini-consultation that preceded them evidence this, and will enable the Group to be held to account. The new Terms bring various groups together and aim to strike a balance between governance and guidance.

Re: Performance Pathway Steering Group
The composition of the Performance Pathway Steering Group is being refreshed and we are seeking candidates for two volunteer roles:
If you are passionate about performance orienteering in Great Britain and would like to support our junior and senior athletes to compete on the world stage, then check out full details on the British Orienteering website.
The Level 3 parent is self-explanatory. For the Independent Performance Expert, we are looking for one or two members who are not involved in the programme in another way (i.e. not a current athlete, parent or a programme coach) who have experience and knowledge that would be of benefit to the group, either in elite orienteering or in an elite programme of another sport. You could be an ex-athlete, coach or manager for example.
Now is a great time to join with new British Orienteering perfomance management in Pippa Archer and a new steering group chair in Ruth Beale.
