And thanks to the Coasts and Islands organisers too. An epic week's orienteering!

Yes, great week. Thanks to all involved.
But, 6 days?
I was on download on Day 5 and it was a difficult task to persuade a Norwegian woman to hand back her hired SI Card because it was the last day

Agreed, a great week.
Thanks to all the Scots (and others) involved in making it happen.
Culbin had more heather than I remember from previous visits - perhaps using different parts ?

Will the event be renamed the Scottish 5 days in future?

Yes indeed, splendid courses. 5 or 6, I don't mind but keep the high quality!

Re: Scottish 6 days
Superb week. The whole family much preferred the 5-day format - worked really well, not just in terms of events, but also holiday accommodation arrangements etc (and there was always a 6th race for this up to it!). Boy, did I need that rest day!
I would guess different parts: it didn't seem more to me from my last visit to Culbin East (2011 Moray Mix), and less/easier than I remember from Culbin West (mostly even further west than the middle) at Moray2011. But then that was a Day 3, and I always struggle then (complete brain and leg fade at Roseisle!).
Personally, Culbin proved a fitting climax to the week: absolutely loved Day 4 (one of my all-time favourite courses). May have been stuffed results wise by being first off but more than offset by having a pristine and mostly empty forest to enjoy! Loved the middle too, even if a turned ankle meant a DNF (BTW I thought the green vegetation striping was unnecessary and just got in the way of the map-reading: basically it was all the flat areas).

I didn't do the Sprint. If you want to count that as part of the 6 days, surely it needs to be called Day 6 (or 4) and included in the overall competition? Personally I'd prefer another day in a forest. As I understand it, part of the reason for dropping to 5 days was volunteer overload. Why not drop the rest day activities and keep day 6 instead?
I did do the mountain bike O. That was much appreciated but presumably just a one off for this year.
Thanks again for a great week and (for me) 8 fantastic races.
BTW, I note that WOA have registered 6 events next summer...

Re: Scottish 6 days
If we're contemplating rebranding it's worth considering the 'Coasts And Islands' which has the twin advantages of being free to change the number of days of O without confusing the branding, and putting the spotlight on the terrain.
'Scottish Highlands 2025'?
No doubt this is not a new discussion and it would be a brave decision to change with all those years of brand awareness.
Whilst we're talking about the Scottish X day, I'll put in my biannual suggestion that there is a score course offered at each day as part of the colour coded/less competitive set of courses. This would be a much more suitable course for the less committed or not done much orienteering parts of the holiday groups. Also often a better option than light green or even orange for those of us from the south still unfamiliar with those brown wiggly things.

Re: Scottish 6 days
Having the final day on a Friday makes accommodation more flexible with many holiday rentals now being Friday to Friday.
Include the "rest day" sprint as one of the 6 days to count, but go back to dropping 2 days from the overall score. Then those that need a rest, don't like the urban sprint or prefer to bag a Munro don't need to run that day.

Re: Scottish 6 days
Great 5 days. Compact spread of venues. Excellent terrain. Good courses. Relaxed atmosphere (although I found the commentary on Day 2 / WRE, which you could hear both in the forest and a mile away in Brodie, a bit intrusive).
If there is to be a return to 6 days I would prefer Wednesday rather than Saturday to allow for the accommodation flexibility. Don't mind if it is an urban sprint, but I suspect finding a venue for 3000 would be a challenge. People can then choose which day to miss if they want a rest day.
A few minor things could be improved. Final details seemed to be split between website, printed programme and daily updates. And not always entirely consistent. Making a single PDF version available in advance would help, so people can have it available even if there is no web access in the arena. And you probably wouldn't need to provide a printed copy for everyone.
Ideally make information about long walks to/from start/finish, and bussing, available before people enter, so they can choose whether to miss a day.
Distances were a bit hit and miss. There should always be a range from car park to assembly. To Start should be from assembly exit. Fully understand why you might not want to give an exact grid reference / postcode of the car park, but not why you wouldn't give a precise location for "signposted from ...."; who knows where " x.y miles from (town)" exactly starts from?
If there are important points about road directions, or anything else, don't only post them on the website on the morning of the event - not everyone has internet access in their accommodation. Perhaps post a copy where leaving the car park the previous day.
But those are minor gripes in what was overall a great week.

Re: Scottish 6 days
When the organisers originally announced it would be 5 days plus a rest day sprint (but still wanting to call is the "6 days"), I suggested to them to make the sprint day a formal event so you would still have 6 days of competition to count.
It seemed like the time was ripe for adding a sprint race especially as there are still 2 non counting days, so if people don't like it they can skip and still have 4 of 5 to count. And a win-win as there were 6 races anyway so might as well use them all.
I got a reply saying "thanks, but no thanks" mainly based on the fact that the sprint event was of lower quality and they felt it was too much work to make it "high quality" enough for a counting race.
Maybe something to implement next time? Certainly having an event called "6 days" that only has 5 days is a bit weird on a permanent basis

Re: Scottish 6 days
A fabulous week of orienteering. Thanks to all !!!
Please think of tiny legged folk - the round trip of nearly 7k to do white/yellow/orange courses on day 1 saw lots of tears and tired kids.
By all means end on a Friday - makes sense for flexibility of accommodation booking.
By all means include a Wednesday activity (like sprint) into the mix.
By all means make it a 4 from 5 or 6 days - gives everyone lots of flexibility and freedom of choice (as well as a chance to stuff up one or two days ). This will allow me to avoid running any "urban" days.
But please do enter distances of walks to the starts/back from remote finishes/remote parking for cars and/or motorhomes in the early entry details so that people can plan properly and not be disappointed when the final details appear.
Thank you Scotland!
