With the IOF trimming the target (winning) time of men's long distance races, and the JK already following suit, maybe this Saturday's British M21E is the last ever top-level race in the UK on such a long course?
Hats off and "have a good run" to the regular contributor here, the M40L champion from 16 years ago, one of several athletes "running up" on the course.
For anyone who takes a spectating interest, and uses Twitter, On The Red Line has a little poll (closing this evening) inviting a vote on who might win what looks to us a pretty open race.
The article, with a link to the poll is at:

Re: British Champs M21E
It'll certainly be my last race over such a distance (I'm expecting something a little shorter at JK Day 3).
I predict someone less than half my age

You may need a future year for that as many of the contenders were born 1993 or earlier. (Does the timing on this involve just years, or years and days?)

I'm just saying someone in their 20's. Half my age is 29.
I reckon there are quite a few contenders in their 20's. I'm not naming anyone in particular though...

Congratulations to Homer on his silver standard completion of 17.8km 480m climb, maybe the last major long race that is quite so long?

To find the run on Winsplits look for a row free of the default pink showing a time loss (I think there are two others - ignore 26-27 timed out road crossing.)

The winner, Peter Taylor-Bray (MDOC), took 96:40. He was born in 1993, pretty much as close as could be to half Homer's age.
Congrats also to former champions now 45 age class who were 5th and 7th on the M/W elite courses.

But M21E will see only a 5 minute decrease in winning time next year, assuming the IOF WT is adopted, from the current 90-100 min to 88-92 min. Their mid points are 95 and 90 minutes respectively. This is not that significant, IMO.
The big change is for W21E where the WT will rise from 70-80 min (mid point of 75) to 88-92 min (mid point of 90), a 20% increase ...

Maybe not for the proper elites, but that 5 min difference could easily be 10 mins of crawling up the big slope at Bigland for me...

Thanks afterthought. I think Oli's performance as an M45 is far more impressive than my plod. I certainly couldn't have got anywhere near his time, even when I was 14 years younger.
Now for the JK...
