We were using a splits printer plus SI download station as our sole means of gaining and storing data at a small event recently. The idea was to download splits data from the printer directly to a PC (using SI Config+) but the software didn't recognise the printer so we got stuck at that point.
We were able to generate simple results from backup printout sheets, so all was not lost. However, it would be good to be able to rescue the full splits data and publish them too and I'm wondering if anyone out there has seen the problem before and has a solution.
The printer is a GEBE Flash 4378 and has an RS232 output lead. We used an RS232 to USB adapter to connect it to a Win 10 PC. It seems that the issue is that Windows cannot find and therefore does not automatically download a driver for this printer and nor can we find one anywhere online.
Any suggestions?

Re: Splits printer download techy query
MIE has put me right - it's the SI download unit which has the data and not the printer
All I need now is to find a way of connecting its RS232 (male) output to my PC ...

The recommended way: https://www.sportident.co.uk/equipment/catalogue/item.php?id=24 plus https://www.sportident.co.uk/equipment/catalogue/item.php?id=43
Cheaper alternatives work too, google RS232 USB e.g. https://www.amazon.co.uk/CableDeconn-Adapter-Prolific-Chipset-Windows/dp/B00VBOCUIO/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?crid=28GGKK5CSUG6F&keywords=Usb+rs232+ftdi&qid=1676820473&sprefix=usb+rs232+ftdi%2Caps%2C99&sr=8-2-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&psc=1

Re: Splits printer download techy query
The GeBe printer was usually supplied by SportIdent UK, so its possible that Martin Stone will be able to provide a Windows driver for it, if there is one.
However if you've got the printer connected to your laptop with the serial/USB adapter cable mentioned in keduro's posting, you should be able to print out your splits by selecting as your printer the generic 'serial printer' option and making sure you've using the correct port.
If you want to retrieve the data from a small event which has used just an SI download box and a splits printer to reconstruct the event in a laptop, using SITiming, the procedure is.
1) Run the event, having remembered to dib the download box with the 'Clear backup' stick before you start, so you only have the data for that event.
2) Set up the event in SITiming on a laptop.
3)Then in SITiming , select your event, go from Event Overview>Data Collection>Download Master/Print (Slave,
4) Connect a red Master download box to your laptop, put the Print Station on top of it with a coupling stick and read the contents of the Print box into the system.
With a bit of luck and some faffing around, you should then be able to reconstruct the event in your laptop and produce some proper results.
