I see the SROC National event due to be on 5th March has been cancelled
This is a great shame. I really enjoy the rare occasions we get the chance to run on Whitbarrow. It has an 'other world' type feeling to it. It's also a shame for MA who have gone to the trouble of putting on a Saturday race to make a weekend of it...
As permission was refused 'on environmental grounds' does that mean the area is lost forever?
Now, what am I going to do that weekend instead?...

Re: Whitbarrow
MA to the rescue!.. maybe. Bilbo is happy to plan, I'm happy to do entries/website/coordinating, and SROC say they might have a bunch of helpers with nothing to do! All TBC but the leading candidate is Loughrigg.
Not sure on UKEOL status, or anything above "Local", as we're struggling to find any qualified controllers not tied up with the JK.

Re: Whitbarrow
People were hoping to run in a forest, not open fell. Any chance it could be technical woodland? I'm sure most folk don't have a problem using a small area, running round it lots/back-to-back maps etc
From small acorns great Oak trees grow.

Re: Whitbarrow
I think we should just be grateful that they are attempting to put on an event at all. Most of Whitbarrow is open fell in any case, and Loughrigg should be really good before it gets covered in bracken.

Re: Whitbarrow
Good news! Permissions have just been granted for Loughrigg.

p.s. in response to Lard - Bilbo has had an idea which will make Loughrigg more interesting - no paths on the map, OO Cup style. I hope the baying dogs of Nopesport will look kindly on this move. We think it should be pretty fair since the area is fast and runnable all over, and there probably won't be ranking points anyway as we don't have a controller.

Re: Whitbarrow
Those who have been trying long and hard to make Whitbarrow happen are just as gutted as everyone who will not be able to run there.

Those colour codes don't seem right for the course lengths.

Re: Whitbarrow
Great job at short notice Bilbo and Alistair! Would be good to see more 'no paths' options at events, and good to see a 'Light Blue' course!
To oblivion and beyond....
