British Night Champs 2023
Does anyone know if there are any details online about the BNOC? I can find no contact details on either the WIM or BOF website, no information about basic details (e.g. course lengths) or anything that I would consider "provisional information" that I might want to know before deciding to enter. I'm not actually planning on attending (it's way too far to travel from Scotland) but I was wanting to arrange the return of a trophy to someone, somehow.

I haven't seen any more info than that provided/linked to on Nopesport a few weeks ago: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=15946

Re: British Night Champs 2023
That was sort of my point TBH. I'm not sure there are many other National Champs where entries are taken with so little basic information....
IF I were thinking of going, as a bare minimum BEFORE I entered I would like to know...
1. Where is it? - OK so this info is available
2. What time is it? - No idea...no details of start times/window. Are starts from 5pm or 7pm? What is the latest/earliest time I could start? If there are E/M/L start blocks what times do these actually cover?
3. How far is it? - No idea. I saw a facebook/twitter post with "provisional" course lengths but nothing on WIM/BNOC website
4. Any "special" info. e.g. it's 3km to the start
To expect people to enter and make travel & accommodation plans (e.g. train times, flight info. hire car etc.) with so little basic information is I think a bit unfair. Hopefully all this will be available before 5th Feb when entries close.
I am sure that most of this information is known already and could be shared, and that the event officials are busy "organising" (and thanks very much, as I know it's a lot of work) but food for thought maybe??

Apologies for the lack of information. We've given the organisers a prod!
Updates promised soon.

Re: British Night Champs 2023
You can work out what time the first start will be.
BNOC rule 3.2.2 Competitors on Championship courses must start no earlier than the end of evening nautical twilight for the date and location of the event.
Which for Ringwood on 18th Feb 2023 is 18:40.
(personally I think this should be a rule for *all* night events at regional level and above - some start practically in daylight).

Re: British Night Champs 2023
As if by magic, British Orienteering's website has just been updated this morning!
https://www.britishorienteering.org.uk/british_night#:~:text=The%20British%20Night%20Championships%20will,the%202%20previous%20Night%20Championships).
and the Organiser has sent me more information to post on the WIM website, which I will try to do later today. Nopesport pressure still works!
And rf_fozzy is correct. Starts from 18.45.
And its only a short walk from the Event Centre to both the Start & Finish

Re: British Night Champs 2023
Does there need to be conversation about that fact that a British Championship race only has 3 competitors from Scotland entered?
Also, at last years British Middle's there were only 12 (I think), and 3 of us were in the same car from the same family (I really enjoyed it though, so not a complaint of the course/terrain/organisation!)

Doesn't the same apply for competitors from Cornwall, Devon & Dorset when Championships are held in Scotland?

How many English teams were there at the 'British' Relay Champs organised by FVO in November 2021?

It already is in the rules:

Does anyone know why W45l are not running on a 1:10,000 just as M45L are? This is not a sexist remark but from someone who's eyesight is in decline....

It probably does? Are there 2000 active orienteers in Devon, Cornwall and Dorset? But it IS a real issue for national championships in all sports. I actually think O makes life hard for itself by scattering multiple disciplines across the calendar and the country which in reality are raced by the same few hundred people. A week of O with night, sprint, middle, long and relays would potentially be easier for those who have to travel.
Whilst it definitely IS an issue with events hosted in Scotland too I think you are misrepresenting some major parts of the story by selecting that particular event? Covid was the real issue. How many English teams were there at the 'British' Relay Champs organised by FVO in November 2021?

Re: British Night Champs 2023
The night event has been co-ordinated with an event the next day in the New Forest. See https://racesignup.co.uk/site/event.php?eventid=3074
I couldn't find a map, but assume the Sunday event will be a decentish area if it's New Forest.
If that persuades you to go to the night champs, I think entries may be closing in 40 minutes...
After the night event, I'm fully expecting my watch to shout at me to take 4 days off, and complain that I have been overtraining. Going orienteering the following day will be the last thing I want to do, which is probably how it should be after an event like this.

... except the day event appears to be full. Which is a shame for a UKOL event
