The London idea was for the World Masters, where it's also about the 'fun' element of the event rather than just the technical side - although the terrain quality is still a little borderline! Clearly a forest WOC wouldn't make sense in the SE.
Holding an EYOC or JWOC would be fun too, although again not in London.
One day when I have more time...

Just to be clear, you won't find many in NW clubs leaping forwards to take on the planning and organising of big events for quite a while. The JK has really stretched us. I'm just pleased the overwhelming majority of people taking part had a good time.

Yeah, I know that feeling. I am a planner, controller, organiser. I freely give my time up as a volunteer, but what do you get in return?
Free Club membership - Nope
Free BOF membership - Nope
Free Event entry - Nope
Get moaned at by people who don't give anything back to the sport/club - Yup!

But we did put on a pretty good World Cup round in the SE in 2005 ...

All of which would require forest terrain, as opposed to the strictly urban WOC.
And the only place in England capable of holding international forest competition is the Lakes. Probably.

I wasn't suggesting NWOA did it alone - a major event like a WOC would have to be a joint effort from all English clubs and associations.
Butthe terrain would have to be the Lakes.
But I understand the necessity for a recharage after the JK! Big events are hard work.

You get to do the events put on by other kind people of a similar ilk
I'm sure all clubs have people who don't give anything back but that's why it's called volunteering. I do think, particularly for regional events and above there is a bit more that could be done by way of a thank you. But this thread is going off at quite a wild tangent as it is...

I map, plan, organise or control about half a dozen events a year, and I honestly can't remember the last time a competitor moaned at me unjustifiably. The last person who complained was when I backed into his car , and even he was apologetic.
Am I blessed? Or maybe terrifying?

You're right, you did. I remember guarding a couple of controls in Battersea Park and doing the Windmill Hill spectator races.
I would still go for somewhere a little trickier for "the one forest WOC in England in 50 years" though - not necessarily the Lakes also because the infrastructure might be tricky.
Also from what I've heard organising a WOC doesn't sound like that much fun what with all the IOF related constraints and expected levels of perfection.
A WMOC, JWOC or EYOC sounds like more fun somehow.

Obviously it would be too much for the NWOA to organise every year but I believe EMOA have previously organised the JK in the Lakes (2004?) and next year they are 'borrowing' areas from WMOA.
My understanding is this a joint effort with different officials from different EM and WM clubs. The WM events are being planned/organised by officials from the various clubs there and the EM events by clubs in LEI & DVO.

I'm not sure where these mythical world-class terrain areas (not in the Lakes) that would be suitable for a WOC (or other international championships) are?
On the other hand, I can think of half a dozen high class urban areas suitable for sprint, sprint relay and KO sprint within 30mins of where I'm currently sat typing.

And then there is the summer vegetation to take into account.

Not mythical at all, I can think of quite a few. Terrain doesn't have to be mega-complex to enable high quality competition. I've run on plenty of terrain in this country that is as good as or better than terrain I've run on abroad that has been used for international championships. Whether one could get access etc is a different issue.

Now that's one of the etceteras!

...back on track.
I had a great time at the JK this year, and my wife as a first time JK'er had a good time too. My M10 son also managed his first un-shadowed course too, so that was nice as well. Thanks to everyone involved.

For example,
Winterfold from 2005. Compare it to any central european classic long.
What we regard as the height of technical skills is often not a challenge at world class level.
One thing to know about WOC-level elites is that they care losing a few seconds. If a trivial path route exists which is only 30 seconds slower than straight, we'd call it a "TD3" leg - elites would call it a mistake. A catching feature 15sec beyond the control? Just TD4 becuase punters can bounce back, but lites would call it a mistake. Interpreting complex contours? A skill to aspire to, but for elites no harder than interpreting complex path networks.
