I don't think I did. Perhaps you missed the point I was driving at - a fell race and an orienteering event are not the same thing. I'm not arguing against EOD, we do EOD at our events as do most of the nearby clubs. But >90% of our participants are repeat customers and most of the EODs are orienteers who just hadn't planned ahead or who suddenly became available at the last minute.
You're just a contrarian then. You have argued aginst EOD previously.
The "planned ahead" comment is a little pejorative too - it's not always about not being able to plan ahead.
It's about whether or not it's possible to be certain if you're going to make it or not due to work and/or other commitments.
For example, I (normally) live within 20-25mins drive of most local CLARO events, but it's impossible to know if I can get there, ready to run, by 1830. Even for some of our AIRE events, especially if they're Bradford based, getting there by 1915 can be a challenge if you don't usually finish work until 1730 at the absolute earliest.
Not everyone can down tools at 1700 in the modern world.
