I’ve just refound the results of the first White Rose (August 26th to 28th 1972) held in Broxa Forst and found some famous names.
H. Harung (a Norwegian) ran an impressive 84.44 in the Men’s Open and Sue Harvey won the Women’s Open in 71.59.
A few other famous names won prizes (were these mugs back then?): M. Smithard in M21B, G. Petrie M12, I. Munro W43; and in the relays: R.Smith/S. Harvey/R.Harvey, P.Palmer/M. Palmer/J.Walker, 3 Malleys, S. Johnston/V. Johnston/E. Johnston, D. Roach/M. Lucking/ Patrick. A certain D. Rosen ran two legs for his team.
I’ll bring the results to the Golden Jubilee this August!
On a related matter from another Topic… you won’t need the car once you get there but the camp site is not that accessible by public transport. There are buses from York that stop in Ampleforth but this is about 5km away; anyone coming by public transport please contact the organiser and we’ll try to sort out lifts for the final stage.

I will second that, a good weekend helped along by friendly weather, although maybe a bit too hot for exertion. Didnt do the night event but by allaccounts it was good. Two days in Gilling East worked well as i didnt feel i was covering old ground. Thought the forest was a bit of a Gizedale wannabee but just didn't quite have the gradients. Could just have been my rubbish route choice though. The sprint on the last day was a nice contrast and allowed some more extended efforts, nice bits of beech wood.
All in all a Classic White Rose, it even rained on the barbeque
ps If anyone did the mountain biking on the Monday as well, Kudos!!!

Yes, was a great weekend with a nice short walk to/from the main events' starts and finish. I was requested by the camping people to drive to the night event (probably would have done anyway given it was 3km along forest roads even if not as the crow flies) for safety reasons. I did see people walking and cycling there though.
I hope the sprint being moved to Monday is not a permanent change though as that's a day too long for me. Saturday afternoon seemed the right place for the sprint to me.

Only did the sprint (extended sprint!), which was a really enjoyable course, definitely worth the trip over.
My only 'constructive criticism' is that, given it was advertised as a 'sprint', the details would have benefited from being more specific about kit requirements: i.e. the prohibition on shorts and the significant advantages of studs! There were a lot of people caught out by this. The notice about no shorts that was apparently in the camping field was missed by quite a few campers, and not much use to those who weren't camping.
