You may have seen that next year's Scottish 6 days is in fact a 5 days (due to resourcing issues), leading to slight awkwardness with the naming.
While I totally sympathise with the workload point, I notice there is also a Sprint race on the "rest day" - so there are 6 races in total after all.
So instead of a 6 day that's a 5 day plus a rest day that's a race day, why not combine all of it into an actual 6 day (as before), with the sprint counting as one of the days?
Surely by now including a sprint is no longer seen as 'heresy'? And for those who don't like it, they can skip it and still have 4 of 5 races to count.
Any reason this doesn't make sense?
[I did email the info@s6d address with this thought a few weeks ago, but never got an answer, so posting here instead.]

Re: Scottish 5 or 6 days
One reason might be that it is more difficult to find a sprint area that would accommodate 3000(?) competitors, which might be needed if it became part of the official competition. Not sure how many have taken part in previous rest-day sprints but it is probably a lot fewer.
The supporting reasons given tend to suggest that this might be a permanent change, for all future occasions, rather than just 2023.

The key reason for switching to S5D is because of resourcing issues for 6 high quality events. The rest day Sprint has generally been seen as a lower key optional event for those with more energy than most of us! Making the Rest day Sprint a high quality competitive event for all age classes (and 3000 people) does nothing to reduce the burden on the S6D organisers.
I agree the brand of S6D is very strong and it will be disappointing for many of us that the era of 1977 to 2019 has come to an end, but times change. Reading John Colls excellent history of the S6D (2011), it is clear that the event has always evolved.
One could argue that S6D is now just aligning with the common 5 day format of most multi day events; O-Ringen, Swiss5, Lakes5.
I think most orienteers would want to see the continuation of a high quality multi-day holiday event in Scotland every two years, whether that is 6 or 5 days, or indeed 3 days as in 2021!
