On the knockout sprint semi and final map what do the "pink buildings" signify - east of no. 3 on the Women's Fredericia map? No. 4 on the Men's

If I'm identifying it correctly from the TV pictures, it's seating areas for a restaurant (or as Katherine put it in commentary "food eating place" )

It would have been easier to check the loose CDs before starting.
I think its more likely that he was checking to see if there was a tricky route choice leg just after the map flip.

Indeed, a phi loop takes a minimum of 6 controls while a butterfly needs 7 (and you can't hide that with a map flip). You couldn't use the last control as part of the loop and you don't want to eliminate the element of head to head running. So if a competitor knows a course has less than 10 controls they can be pretty confident that there are no loops.
I'm not sure the arena run through is an issue - that could be the common leg of a phi loop, so you would run through twice. Though it could be confusing for spectators if the other parts of the loop were unequal.
Butterflies or phi loops are exactly equivalent in terms of fairness - imagine moving the two end controls of a phi loop progressively closer together until they are at the same point.

Re: World Champs 2022
Loops - phi or butterfly - really don't work well for knock-out sprint. It's hard to accommodate them within such a short course, they are confusing for spectators (and the TV audience), you lose the sense of head-to-head racing, it's pretty easy for the runners to work out when they are coming, and the athletes who have the loops in the same order as Tove may get an unearned advantage over the other half of the field. They used loops at a World Cup round a few years ago (possibly the China one?) and it didn't seem to work particularly well.
Thus far, runners' choice looks like the most effective option for splitting the pack without the potential unfairness that comes arbitrarily assigning people to different courses - but, as graeme says, it makes life much more complicated for the organiser.
There were no loose control descriptions for the knock-out rounds. (There were loose control descriptions for the qualifier, but apparently only if you had a control description holder.)

Things to know about the Sprint Relay silver medal
Things to know about Megan’s Knock-out sprint silver medal
- This was GB’s first WOC medal since Scott Fraser won silver in the Sprint in Finland in 2013. Ignore what Per Forsberg said at the Prizegiving about it being the first medal since the men’s Relay gold in the Czech Republic in 2008.
- This was GB’s 11th WOC medal (three gold, four silver, four bronze).
- Charlotte, Ralph, Kris and Megan take the total number of GB WOC medallists to 15 (11 men and 4 women).
- This was the first relay medal won by British women.
- GB become the sixth country to win a Sprint Relay medal, joining Denmark, Norway, Russia, Sweden, and Switzerland.
- GB have won a medal in all WOC disciplines to have been run to date (Long, Middle, Short, Sprint, Sprint Relay and Relay), joining Sweden, Switzerland and Norway as the four countries to have achieved this.
Things to know about Megan’s Knock-out sprint silver medal
- This was GB’s first WOC medal since two days ago.
- This was GB’s 12th WOC medal (three gold, five silver, four bronze).
- Megan becomes the third GB woman to win an individual WOC medal, joining Yvette Hague and Heather Monro. Megan’s two medals make her the second-best GB woman after Yvette who has four. Charlotte and Heather are tied in third with one medal each.
- GB have won a medal in all WOC disciplines to have been run to date (Long, Middle, Short, Sprint, Knock-out sprint, Sprint Relay and Relay). Only GB, Switzerland and Sweden have managed this.
- This the the fourth WOC where GB have won two medals. The previous times were USA in 1993 (Yvette in the Long and the Men's Relay team), Germany in 1995 (Yvette in the Long and Short) and Switzerland in 2003 (Jamie in the Sprint and the Men's Relay team).
- The complicated IOF calculations that somehow produce full results for the Knock-out sprint show that all three GB men finished in the top 10 (Kris 6th, Ralph 7th and Jonny 10th). This is the best three GB results in a single WOC race ever, just beating Graham Gristwood (4th), Scott Fraser (9th) and Murray Strain (12th) in the Sprint in France at WOC 2011.

Here’s some stitched together clips of Brits from Tuesday’s Knock-Out Finals (you might need Instagram). Fantastic performances all round.

GB win 3 of 6 heats. Maybe don’t read too much into that; but surely a confidence boost for the finals….

Perhaps she was saving her legs for the final.
Looks like 3/6 heats were won by Brits.
