There is also potential unfairness with using loops. If one runner in a KO round is significantly quicker than the others (e.g. because she's Tove), the two slower runners who have the loops in the same order as her and get towed around may get an unearned advantage over the three runners who have the loops in the other order when it comes to qualifting in second/third place.
At least with runners' choice, there is an element of skill/judgement/tactics to whether you end up being able to follow Tove, rather than it being completely random.

Yeah, all six through! Not sure many other nations have done likewise.

Yes, no gaffling.
QF1 was just a track race, everyone stuck together.
QF2 completely different, runners choosing different routes, and some making mistakes...
Jonny 1st, Kris 2nd

Jeez, these quarter-finals are intense and relentless. Really feeling it. (Well, not "really".)

Great running, 5 out of 6 through to the Semis. Bad luck for Grace, who was doing a lot of the navigation in her heat, but then picked a wrong route choice very near the end.

Who thought down the start ramp straight into a lamppost was an optimum set up??

Re: World Champs 2022
Also note for WOC2024, you need a longer run off after the finish line! (without a ramp??)
