I like using SI-Droid software for small events; it's simple, flexible and cheap. So far I have used it with an old Android phone and then a second hand 10 inch tablet. Both of these devices are a bit limited by only having a single micro-usb socket. I can use a Y shaped adapter wire to simultaneously plug in the SI download station and an external battery, but occasionally the micro-usb plug will fall out of the socket. I don't have a chromebook but I realised recently that later model chromebooks can run Android apps.
Has anybody successfully run the SI-Droid Event app on a chromebook, with the SI download unit and a bluetooth printer connected ? Does it need to be a touch screen chromebook or will a keyboard only one work ? Which chromebooks and which printers have worked ? Anybody know ?

Can’t answer your questions but there is an email address for the developer on the app’s Google Play page - maybe try him?
Thanks for bringing this to my attention; I hadn’t heard of it before (Apple user!)

Re: SI-Droid on Chromebook
I have no experience of using SI-Droid with a Chromebook but it works fine with an Android tablet or phone and a bluetooth printer. A tablet has the advantage of displaying a list of downloads and the splits from the latest download. I have never had any problem with battery life for either phone/tablet or printer. It is very easy to use - plug in the download box and the app starts and will pair with a previously recognised printer. It can download straight away.
I think it's brilliant and perfect for a low key event.
Courses can be created on the fly from a download and edited if necessary or they can be imported from a standard xml file. Runner details can be read from SI Card, a stored file or can be added / edited.
Scroll easily through the people who have downoaded.
Several options to create results files and upload them.
Gripes
It does not use Age Classes. It seems the Swedes don't need them.
The initial menu for setting up an event could be simplified to just Date, Event Name and base start time (needed for Type 5 cards).
All the menu options could be made tamper proof as currently anyone can access them.
The splits printout could display real-time as well as split and elapsed time.

Re: SI-Droid on Chromebook
I went to a big computer sales place near us and tried to install SI-Droid Lite on three different Chromebooks. Each one failed with the message "SI-Droid is not available on this device". I then emailed the app developer and asked if it is likely that SI-Droid will become available on Chromebook. He, very kindly, looked into the problem and discovered that Chromebooks won't allow USB-OTG support for peripherals, such as the SI download unit. Apparently any app which uses "android.hardware.usb.host" is not be supported by ChromeOS. That's a shame. I suppose that there may be some way that we could contact Google and make a change request, but the ways of Google are a mystery indeed.
