The IPCC report is clear: nothing short of transforming society will avert catastrophe
With all the travelling involved, the carbon footprint of our sport is pretty high. Aside from the changes individuals will have to make to their lifestyles, how can we, as a sport, make changes that will reduce its CO2 footprint?
Perhaps charging high car parking fees for petrol and diesel powered vehicles - and then donating this to something like a tree planting charity ? Maybe remote events, which cannot be accessed by public transport will be deemed unviable? Should regional, national and international events, which involve more travel, be curtailed? Maybe BOC should move to Catching Features?
Seriously though, can the sport survive in its current format as we move towards net-zero? Should any changes be spearheaded by BOF or should clubs take it upon themselves to take serious look at their fixture lists?
