Re: Lochaber 2021 Scottish 6 Days
Helpers at the Scottish 6 Days have never had half price entry - occasionally a T shirt or gilet. Their clubs may be rewarded directly for helping out if there is an event surplus as part of a disbursement. Indirectly the clubs benefit from the contribution made to the SOA. We do get sportscotland funding for development purposes but to get that funding we have to jump through lots of administrative hoops. Our Chief Operations Officer Fiona Keir does much of the jumping nowadays but 10 years ago when I started as "Professional Officer" the responsibility lay with Hilary Quick and myself. The reporting and red tape wasn't quite as onerous as it is now and I was more than happy to move onto things I enjoy more.

As far as I recall, my club used to offer free entry to helpers many years ago, but I guess with the higher levies and smaller entries we now have it no longer makes financial sense.

I have been in clubs that have subsidised entry fees (or paid them in full) for events. Cash rich clubs could perhaps offer this as an incentive to helpers (maybe just the day they are the helping club)?

Whether you can offer free/discounted entries depends on who comes to your events. If 70% of the attendance is from your own club, offering free entries isn't going to turn out well!
I quite like the system run by (I think) SMOC: identify that you need x helpers for an event; then the first x members who volunteer to help get a free/discounted entry and everyone else pays full price.

Do you know of any accomodation under £200 for the week? Just one person, might be priced out on this one.

Some if the Fort William hotels have been doing very good deals, might be worth checking them.

I would think there will be zero chance of 'cheap' accommodation in Scotland this summer... I know tour operators are expecting to be 'sold out' (which means running 2 or 3 coaches for each trip to meet covid compliance regs

Except, apparently there's no sprint to plan. Sorry about the fake news.

Plan one all the same. People might turn up; I understand there may be some orienteers in the area anyway, for another event, that has a rest day that day.

Re: Lochaber 2021 Scottish 6 Days
Given the situation with Covid-19 we as organisers for Lochaber 2021 have a certain reluctance for a sprint or urban race to take place. We want to be below the radar as much as possible and in fact only one day (Day 2 at Inverlochy) should it become obvious that there is an event of some sort going on. Last year's triathlon by Aviemore (organised by Paul McGreal) had the plug pulled on it last minute - that was mainly down to local concerns or concerned locals. Fort William would actually be a pretty good location for a sprint - not beautiful but there is a very intricate (and hilly) housing estate that would be great fun. On the positive side there is lots to do as a tourist but don't everyone go up Ben Nevis at the same time.
