Re: Lochaber 2021 Scottish 6 Days
Entries are apparently closed because of number limitation yet the SOA is inviting cheap entries for locals to experience the 'buzz & excitement' of a big international event.
It's unbelievable.... trying to be low key due to covid & then stick your head above the parapet.... a rise in covid numbers after the 6 days will be down to this 'international' event no matter the real reason.
'Buzz & excitement'... with instructions not to mix, no arena, no club tents, etc etc.... some folk get excited very easily

Re: Lochaber 2021 Scottish 6 Days
A limit of 500 attendees at any one time in Level 2.
"Level 2" .. "Total Daily Limit: 500 participants"
With two contradictory statements I still feel sorry for the Tough Mudders.
and with the Health Secretary saying that all legal restrictions are expected to be lifted in England on 19 July, and that we need to learn to live with Covid whilst acknowledging that cases are going to rise significantly, what will Scotland decide ?

Re: Lochaber 2021 Scottish 6 Days
I've been getting my information about limits on numbers at events in Scotland from the article posted on the BBC website on 22nd June:
In Level 2 areas "outdoor seated/open space events are limited to 500."
The same phrasing says 1000 in Level 1 areas and 2000 in Level 0, which is what the S6D are working on.

Hopefully we won't be taking much notice of that Conservative and unionist

Re: Lochaber 2021 Scottish 6 Days
About the Tough Mudder debacle again. Please correct me if you spot a flaw in my logic.
As SJC and keduro have pointed out that there is a difference between the Scottish Governments regulations and Sportscotland's rules. Sportscotland is an executive non-departmental body of the Scottish Government and implements government policy for sport and physical recreation, answerable to a board of governors rather than Government Ministers.
Tough Mudder is run by a private company called Spartan Race UK Operations Limited and describe themselves as a "leading global lifestyle brand". They are a commercial business, not an open sport. There is no National Governing Body for Tough Mudder to answer to or for Sportscotland to liaise with; there is no "sport-specific guidance" published for Tough Mudding (https://sportscotland.org.uk/covid-19/l ... -guidance/). Spartan Race UK Operations Limited is an entertainment business, not a sport governing body. I think that they expected to have been dealt with as an entertainment event like a music festival, not shoe horned into Sportscotland's Byzantine purview.
On the 18th of July 140,000 spectators are expected at Silverton. On the normal law of averages in the UK, about 14,000 of them will be from Scotland.
I think that Tough Mudder have been badly done over.
How do we recruit their customers into Orienteering ?

Re: Lochaber 2021 Scottish 6 Days
Is it not that the tough mudder was in level 2 area which is limited to 500 people and they wanted 575?
The 6 days area is currently in level 1 which is 1,000 limit, hoping to go to level 0 which is 2,000.
Why we have a “level 0” which still = restrictions is another question…

Re: Lochaber 2021 Scottish 6 Days
Tough Mudder were apparently having a 12 hour participation window each day with 2,500 participants a day. They thought as they only had 500 on site at any time, that complied with the 500 person daily limit (which is quite clear when reading the linked material from Scottish Government’s website to Sportscotland’s website).
Even if Tough Mudder expected to be treated as an ‘event’ rather than a ‘sport’ they would still have been limited to 500 people.

Someone must have a picture of the JK2018 run-in that could be used for marketing purposes!

In July of that year you could still see where the relay run-in had been. It was the only part of that field that had green grass, all the rest was dead brown grass.

It looks like the Scottish government is planning to go to Level 0 on July 19 as previously proposed…

Maybe we will have 6 days after all

Just when I was rather looking forward to 3 days orienteering and 4 days hill walking. Put the Munro log book back on the shelf.
