Re: JK 2021 cancelled
You beat me to it ... I've been on the phone since 5pm!
We are very sorry to have to cancel JK 2021, but it has proved impossible to confirm the various permissions needed to run four days of orienteering to an acceptable standard.
KERNO are hoping to run events over the Easter weekend. We hope to be able to use Penhale (subject to permission being granted for a much lower attendance). It is likely that we will only be able to accept entries from those who are resident at Perran Sands Holiday Park - we don't know yet. However, please pass the word.
We would like to run an urban sprint race elsewhere - we need to check permissions for that one - and we're looking at TrailO as well. Watch this space.

Re: JK 2021 cancelled
I really sympathise and appreciate all your efforts in making it happen.
The only question I have is, could we not have waited until say Christmas (or even later) to make a final decision? The OO Cup only confirmed the date a month before the event this summer and still got 1,500+ people.

Re: JK 2021 cancelled
I'm afraid we lost a crucial permission at the beginning of the week. We'd been refused permission to use Hayle Towans several months ago. We could not get the use of Davidstow Moor (lambing time). We thought of Lanhydrock but the National Trust are not talking to anyone. Finally we could not use Perran Sands Holiday Park for the Assembly area for Penhale (Government coronavirus regulations on Haven Holidays as to how many people they could have on their land - another 2000 was out of the question).
So, nowhere to go. French regulations are another matter...

Very frustrating but thanks for all the hard work and we'll be there so I hope you get some of the smaller events up and running!

Re: JK 2021 cancelled
Thank you for trying and thanks for the early notice, as many will be trying to book accommodation for JK.
I fear this will not be an isolated case and I doubt if there will be many if any larger events, until Covid is beaten. The reason is primarily land permission, with very few landowners prepared to discuss Orienteering events yet.
Where this leaves BOF, significantly reliant on levy and major events income is uncertain?
