The press-conference was quite explicit in advising everyone to avoid non-essential travel and contact with others, regardless of the sized of the gathering.
There is no way any orienteering can be going ahead until this governmental advice changes.
It's obviously at the end of the working day now, so I don't expect a statement from BOF until tomorrow. However, I'm with Jon, BOC needs to be cancelled as soon as possible to give everyone the opportunity to get back some their costs. I also don't expect any of my entry fee back, but I will try and get something back from the hotel.

I think he said "...with emergency workers" - because, basically, they have better things to do, so not a ban (although I guess in some cases that would take events outside their insurance cover so they have to cancel).
Glad it's not my call but like you I don't see how BOC (or any significant-scale orienteering event) can go ahead, particularly because of the travel issues.

A suitably vague statement from a government lacking in any leadership skills.
No, events cannot now go ahead. But the statement was sufficiently vague to give insurers wiggle room to avoid paying out on cancellation insurance. Only a cynic would claim that was deliberate. That said, I am a cynic.

Absolutely agree.
The only events that cannot go ahead are those requiring public services to attend by law (police and ambulance) which I think is over 5,000 people.
For everything else it is up to the organisers to decide, and if they make the decision then the insurers won't pay up.

Sorry to hear about the JK, and thanks for the early call.
Thanks for setting up SI so refunds can be donated to The Orienteering Foundation.
Is there any way I can gift aid it?

Croeso 2020 is also off. That frees up two possible weekends for the British.

Think any new BOC dates would have to outside the steam venues opening times - i.e. after October 17.

I too am a cynic... The pub and hotel trade has just been utterly shafted - their insurance won't pay out if the only advice is "please don't go to pubs etc" but the UK government doesn't appear to notice or care about this.

Cynics need to bear in mind, measures are almost certainly going to be ramped up further still. Hopefully we won't be subject to Martial Law.

French Orienteering have just suspended all competitions until the start of May. Only a matter of time until the season is called off by British Orienteering as well I imagine.
