NVii Str8 UK TO SPONSOR UK ELITE LEAGUE
We are pleased to annouce NVii Str8 UK as sponsor of the League with £50 vouchers for winners across all categories and smaller vouchers for podium athletes.
NVii are a new brand (recently featured in CompassSport) making shoes specifically for orienteering whilst Str8 compasses are the most advanced on the market.
Both are available direct at nviistr8.uksales@gmail.com.
REMAINING RACING
Euromeeting in Czech Republic is scheduled in the League for the end of October. Czech has recently been placed on the quarantine list however so less fair to include it in the League. Watch this space.
We have heard rumours of racing for seniors on 21st/22nd November. If anyone is planning junior-focused races between now and Christmas please let us know at ukeliteoleague@gmail.com and we will add them to the League.
Personal note Shoes and compasses are now available online at Formline with free delivery over £75.

With EYOC cancelled and no British Champs scheduled lets hope British Orienteering are working on some quality junior races before the end of the year to salvage something from what has been a dismal year for the youngsters.
To oblivion and beyond....

I almost agree with this Buzz....except that I think we should be looking to clubs to stage races, British Orienteering have done their bit (as have SOA etc) by getting approved return-to-sport frameworks in place which are there specifically to make it possible for events to be arranged. It is the clubs that own the maps and have the areas/landowner relationships!
(FYI the 21/22 Nov elite races that Duncan mentions is because a club has come forward and is looking to stage the 2020 SHIs rather than see them miss a year).
Why did I do that...

Absolutely its the clubs that stage events, but British Orienteering could (should IMO) be encouraging/assisting as they have done in the past with, for example, Peter Palmer Relays, and the recent selection races in the Lakes. Junior events are typically lower numbers and therefore more easily accommodated with current restrictions, but may not be on the agenda for many clubs.

The resumption of Orienteering is going to founder on the lack of land permissions (eg JK21 cancelled). The question is whether British Orienteering has a role to play in securing land permissions, particularly with national bodies like Forestry Commission, MoD, National Trust, or whether permissions are best left to Clubs with local contacts.

Rumour is that the SHI is still on. If not, I'm wasting my time planning the relays*.

Re: The UK Elite League is back
Thanks to Lakeland OC and Warrior two days of fantastic racing went down at Lakes Reloaded over 4-5th October. There's a great write-up in the coming issue of CompassSport with videos and photos on our Instagram. Maps and results are linked to here.
Following the weekend and the Junior selection races the League tables have been updated leaving these at the top:
Senior Men: Peter Hodkinson, Thomas Wilson, Alastair Thomas
Senior Women: Laura King, Helen Ockenden, Niamh Hunter (all U23)
U23M: Thomas Wilson, Alastair Thomas, Daniel Spencer
M20: Alastair Thomas, Daniel Spencer, Thomas Laraia
W20: Ellie Bales, Niamh Hunter, Eilidh Campbell
M18: Peter Molloy, Matthew Gooch, Daniel Campbell
W18: Rachel Brown, Alice Wilson, Izzy Cox
Are we going to get any more races? It seems unlikely that scoring League points will be fair with more places entering lockdown.
However, following the success of Lakes Reloaded we have partnered with Warrior (aka Martin Bagness) and Masterplan Adventure to put on three elite-focused races next weekend to find the true 'Lakeland Warrior'.
Registration onto the pre-selection list closes midnight Friday, we'll vet the entries Saturday and send out invites to enter by midnight Sunday. We've got some good names on the pre-selection list already but it would be great to see more. Enter on SiEntries. £10/race, £5 juniors/students.
The 2020 League is sponsored by NVii Str8 UK.
